6 Magic Kingdom Mistakes That Scream “This Is My Last Trip to Disney World”

Magic Kingdom might be the most iconic Disney World park, with the big Cinderella Castle welcoming you home. Unfortunately, it can also be the most chaotic!

Now, Magic Kingdom is my favorite park at Disney World, and when I’m visiting, it’s hard not to notice mistakes that people are making that I KNOW will make this their last trip to Magic Kingdom.

1. Not Checking Park Hours

I know, I know. You might think that you’ll leave after the fireworks, and you’ll have a perfect evening, and it will be everything you ever wanted. Well, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Magic Kingdom closes early pretty frequently, without a chance to watch Happily Ever After.

Sometimes, Magic Kingdom closes early for other reasons

For special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which runs from August to October, and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which is from November to December, the park will close around 6 PM on select nights. If you want to watch the fireworks, you’ll need to make sure you pick a day without a party!

2. Not Checking for Big Events or Holidays

Unlike the park calendar, you might need to check a few resources (aka us here at AllEars) to make sure you’re not missing out on significant events. Cheerleading season, runDisney events, major conferences, and even after-hours events won’t necessarily change the hours of the park, but they will bring the crowds.

Crowds from runDisney

As an avid runDisney athlete, I promise you don’t want to be in the parks when there are THOUSANDS of people trying to celebrate their major accomplishment.

3. Not Being Prepared for the Crowds

Speaking of all those people, Magic Kingdom is almost always busy, and you’re going to be dealing with a lot of people. Whether you’re fighting for spots for the fireworks, trying to get a snack, or even going back to your hotel room at the end of the night, be prepared to face the crowds.

Know your ideal transportation to get home and be willing to spend a little extra time in the park to wait for the crowds to clear.

4. Not Planning for Nighttime Spectaculars

I wish I could tell you that you just have to sneak up last minute and watch the fireworks show or the new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight, but that’s not the case. You might have to line up for your spot an hour or more beforehand, especially if you want a good spot.

Happily Ever After

Get ready to grab a snack and head to your spot early because if you wait till ten minutes before it starts, you might be in the back of the crowd, not able to see anything.

5. Not Planning for Meals

Magic Kingdom can be one of the hardest parks to eat in, especially if you want to eat at a sit-down restaurant. The sit-down restaurants in Magic Kingdom are usually packed and have had reservations booked out for months, with no waitlist available, especially for ones like Cinderella’s Royal Table, where you can eat in the castle with princesses.

When you’re planning your trip, try to plan your meals out earlier than you would normally. Then you can be ready to snag that reservation and make your dinner dreams come true.

Same goes for Crystal Palace!

6. Not Knowing About the Weather

Listen, Florida is HOT, and you’re probably going to be feeling it in Magic Kingdom. Even if you’re used to the heat, like I am from growing up in Las Vegas, get ready for the humidity. You’re going to feel sweaty and wet a lot of the time, so do yourself a favor and pack some extra clothes and a whole bottle of sunscreen.

Beyond Magic Kingdom, don’t forget about an extra bthing suit or two and requesting extra towels. If you’re like me and expect them to dry overnight, think again!
