EPCOT has already seen some pretty big changes over the past few years — the entire park underwent a massive transformation.

Although most of that transformation was complete with the opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, there’s still more work to be done. Disney has announced that Test Track will be getting an upgrade, and now the ride is closed and work has begun. A new permit could hint at the kind of work Disney plans on doing to the ride.
So we don’t know much about what Disney has planned for Test Track, except that it seems to be a pretty big makeover. Concept art has shown that the ride’s entrance will get a little bit of an upgrade with a new sign and new lighting.

However, the inside of the ride will see the biggest change. Another piece of concept art showed new ride vehicles cruising through some kind of forest with the ride vehicles themselves being inspired by World of Motion, the ride that Test Track eventually became. This suggests that the entire interior of the ride is getting a new look.

A new permit filed for the ride suggests that this is exactly the case. Disney recently filed a permit for some work to be done on Test Track to “install set elements.” We can imagine this means that this is for the interior of the ride, where the current elements are being scrapped for something new.

The work is being done by Jon Richards Company, which has also worked with Disney on other attractions, including installing new signs for the updated Country Bear Jamboree. The Jon Richards Company website highlights some of its work with Disney, including signage, food carts, and automotive. However, the company also specializes in show sets, including stages and props.

Of course, we won’t know exactly what this permit means until Disney begins to release more information about the Test Track upgrade. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details, though, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
