Disney pulled through with a lot of wins this year, among the other honored entertainment. But, the Academy Awards themselves saw a huge dip in viewership in the midst of the pandemic’s effect on the film industry.

CNN reporter Frank Pallotta has released details about the all-time low viewing of the Academy Awards this past Sunday. The Oscars only clocked in at 9.85M viewers, which was down 58% from last year.

As theaters have closed their doors over the past year, less films have been debuting during the pandemic. And, since there are less movies in the pool of options, it’s not a surprise that the ratings for award shows have gone down.
