As states around the country begin to pause or roll back on their reopening procedures, it has caused movie theaters to remain closed to the public. With no movie theaters to welcome back guests for the time being, studio production companies have had to make difficult decisions on what to do with their upcoming projects.

We have just learned some major developments coming out of Walt Disney Studios, specifically in regards to two of their biggest franchises.
CNBC has reported that all Star Wars and Avatar films that have had attached release dates have been pushed back by one calendar year. The premiere date of Avatar 2, which was set for December 16th, 2021, will be used instead for an unnamed Disney live-action Film.

The delays have impacted three upcoming Star Wars films and all four of the planned Avatar sequels. Despite the Avatar films officially being back in production, something that fans have been anticipating for years since the first film came out in 2009, we will all have to wait a bit longer before we see the franchise continue in theaters.

This is not the first time we have seen major film releases from Disney be pushed back this far. Jungle Cruise, which was set to be released in theaters this month, was already delayed by an entire year, now set to come out summer of 2021.

We will continue to monitor all of these upcoming film projects and will provide updates as we know more.
