It appears as though Disney is banking on the summer season to be when folks can head back to the movies.

We just learned about the latest updates from Walt Disney Studios and Marvel on their upcoming release schedule. Many films have been pushed back from their original theatrical release dates, while one film will be heading straight to Disney+.
The live-action remake of Mulan, originally slated to open on March 27th, will now arrive in theaters on July 24th, 2020. Jungle Cruise, which was supposed to open this summer, is getting delayed an entire year, now opening on July 30, 2021.

Black Widow, the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will now open in cinemas on November 6th, 2020. This date was originally held for the cinematic release of Eternals, which will now be bumped back to February 12th, 2021. This ripple effect extends to several additional Marvel films slated for 2021 and 2022 releases.

Eternals is taking over the original release date for Shang-Chi, now opening in theaters on May 7th, 2021, which was Doctor Strange 2’s original opening date. Doctor Strange 2 will now be released on November 5th, 2021, which was supposed to be Thor: Love and Thunder‘s release date. Thor has now been pushed back to February 18th, 2022.

Until today, there was speculation as to whether any of these films would head straight to Disney+. We now know that Artemis Fowl, originally slated to open in theaters on May 29th, 2020, will now head straight to Disney+ with no theatrical release.

It looks like one of the only Disney movies to remain unscathed in terms of their release date so far is the upcoming Pixar film Soul. It’s still expected to hit cinemas on June 20th, 2020.

We will continue to keep an eye on all of these release dates in case any more changes appear down the road.
