REVIEW: Peanut Butter and Chocolate Lovers Need To Head to The Cake Bake Shop ASAP

The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk is still one of our favorite spots to grab a fancy sweet treat, even though it’s certainly on the pricey side.

The Cake Bake Shop

While this location is known for its table-service dining experience, the bakery is also home to some delicious treats that we love to grab to treat ourselves. The bakery is often releasing new treats, and when we got word that there were three new treats available, we knew we had to try all three. We’ve gotta be honest, though, only one of them really hit for us.

To kick things off, we’ve got the Coconut Cream Pie for $12, which is coconut cream custard in a vanilla wafer cookie pie crust. We’ve got to say that if you’re not a fan of the texture of coconut, this won’t be the treat for you.

Coconut Cream Pie

This is filled to the BRIM with whipped cream, so we do wish there was a bit more balance between the different ingredients, and we do feel this is more of a parfait than a pie. After you get past the whipped cream, you’ll reach the vanilla custard, and at the bottom, you’ll find the graham cracker crust with coconut flakes. That’s where you get hit with a big punch of coconut, so we do think it’s best to mix everything all together to get all the tastes in one bite. It’s light, fluffy, it’s not dense, and the cup is pretty big, so we do feel like it’s a good price for the treat you get.

Lots of coconut flavor if you mix it up!

To drink, we also recently picked up the White Chocolate Pearl Latte for $9. This is made with Ghirardelli white chocolate, French vanilla and almond syrups, steamed whole milk, topped with whipped cream and pearl sprinkles.

Now, this did just taste mostly like coffee to us, with a slight punch of French vanilla, but we didn’t get much white chocolate except for an aftertaste, and the almond syrup doesn’t have a very strong taste either. We weren’t a big fan of the whipped cream on the top either, as the sprinkles really were hard, and they fell right through it towards the bottom. When we got them through our straw (since our drink was iced), they threw us off, and overall, we don’t think this one was worth the cost since it didn’t live up to the flavor profile.

We wouldn’t get it again

Finally, we snagged a slice of the Peanut Butter Crunch Cake for $22, and this is layers of chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream, chocolate ganache, and crunchy chocolate pearls between the layers.

Peanut Butter Crunch Cake

Now, something very interesting happened to us with this one — because the frosting was so delicate and soft, the cake actually fell apart on us when we went to transfer it to the plate! Huge thanks to Jesse at Cake Bake Shop for helping us out and getting a new slice so we could take some beautiful photos of this STUNNING dessert. While this cake slice is expensive, like the others on the menu, it was fantastic, and in fact, it may be one of the BEST slices we’ve ever had here.

It’s delicious!

The chocolate is rich, dark chocolate, making the fluffy peanut butter flavor from the buttercream pair that much better. The pearls inside the buttercream have a great crunch to them, and no flavors overpowered each other. They blended beautifully, and if you’re a fan of peanut butter and chocolate, you CANNOT miss this dessert. We’re so sad it’s just around for March, because we want it all the time!

We could eat it time and time again!

That just goes to show that even our favorite places in Disney World can have great moments, like this incredible cake, and also have some items that need a bit of help, like the coffee. It’s also why we commonly return to spots time and time again, because things change on a dime! Be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney news!
