NEW Permit Reveals CHANGES to Villains Land at Magic Kingdom

For years now, we’ve been waiting to hear more about the new Villains Land area coming to Magic Kingdom. It’ll be behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (currently closed for refurbishment), and concept art had us pretty excited when it was first released, but after not getting anything else for a while, we have to admit we’ve been getting a little impatient.

Recently, it was revealed that the original plans for Villains Land may have been scrapped, with Imagineers being challenged to think bigger. We still don’t have much information about the land as a whole, but a new wastewater management plans filed by Disney give us an idea about what some of these changes may look like.

The new plans have been filed with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the biggest difference between these plans and the ones filed just weeks ago, is that one of the main buildings in the land appears to be MUCH bigger than originally planned.

Don’t worry, we’ve got the plans from a few weeks ago that we can use to compare — below you’ll find those plans from January 30th. As you’ll see the main interior building for Villains Land has now grown in size pretty exponentially, and the building above it seems to have grown in size AND changed slightly in shape.

This change comes just one day after a report from The Wrap alleges and speculates that the original concept for the land has changed — instead of being scarier with an intense roller coaster attraction themed after Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, it’s being reported that the land may now be more family-friendly with the roller coaster themed around The Emperor’s New Groove.

However, sources that spoke to The Wrap did indicate that Maleficent will still get her own ride, but it’ll be an attraction that’s more in line with an experience as immersive as Rise of the Resistance. A third ride has also now been mentioned, potentially being a “flat ride” similar to Dumbo. One of the speculations we’re most excited about is that Hades will rule over a dinner show with Pain and Panic, along with other characters — now THAT’S something we’d love to see!

Disney hasn’t made any official announcements about this new land or these reports, so it’s important to note that this is not confirmed and that things very well could change! We’re really hoping we’ll hear more solid information soon, because, Disney, we’re REALLY looking forward to this new land!
