Magic Kingdom has some awesome new expansions planned — the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are being renovated into a Cars-themed, Piston Peak, and the area behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will transform into a new Villains Land!

Thanks to @bioconstruct, we’re able to see aerial views of all these exciting projects! Here’s what the news lands look like this week.
Currently, the Haunted Mansion is covered with a scrim and scaffolding while exterior work is underway. The area behind it is being leveled with dirt as they move earth for future buildings. This area is expected to become the site of a new ride in Villains Land.

When we zoom out, there’s a new retaining wall for the nearby Piston Peak National Park. This is likely going to be the site of one of the Cars-themed rides.

Close to the Frontierland walkway, dirt is being placed on the right, near the former riverboat landing. There’s also a new foundation wall between Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, going all the way to Liberty Square.

When we look behind Big Thunder Mountain, even more of Piston Peak and Villains Land prep is underway. The land has been mostly leveled, with some work still happening.

They’ve now completely blocked off the drainage pipe that used to fill the Rivers of America. While the Piston Peak concept art does incorporate a river, it’s on a much smaller scale than its predecessor. We’re curious if they’re keeping the mouth of the river there, or will move it closer to Piston Peak later.

We’re so excited for these new lands to open. Based on the aerial photos, they’ll be about double the size of Frontierland, so there’s a lot of progress still underway. Stay tuned to AllEars for more construction updates!
