REMINDER: We’re Less Than One Month Away from a MAJOR Disney Change

March 18th is going to be a game-changing day in the history of the Walt Disney Company, as it will mark the official CEO transition from longtime leader Bob Iger to his successor, Josh D’Amaro.

After Iger’s final day on the 17th, D’Amaro’s first day will coincide with the company’s Annual Shareholder meeting. Said meeting usually includes some major news drops — including theme park and movie news — and we could see Disney possibly breaking out the big guns to jumpstart the D’Amaro era in a big way.

The transition to D’Amaro comes at a pivotal time for the company, as streaming continues to transform the entertainment sector, while massive projects, including Piston Peak, Tropical Americas, and the culmination of Disneyland Forward, dominate the domestic parks. In fact, in the month before his official ascension, rumors and reports have emerged that D’Amaro has spearheaded a full redesign of the upcoming Villains Land at the Magic Kingdom.

D’Amaro is a longtime Disney employee, having risen through the ranks of the company,  holding several posts in the company’s theme park division, including Vice President of Animal Kingdom, President of Disneyland, and, most recently, Chairman of Disney Parks and Experiences.

The outgoing Iger has been one of Disney’s most influential corporate figures over the last several decades. After joining the company as part of the ABC acquisition in 1996 (he was COO of Capital Cities/ABC at the time), Iger rose through the ranks quickly. He was named president of Disney in 2000 and succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005. During his initial tenure, Iger spearheaded the acquisitions of Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century Fox.

Iger first stepped down from the role in 2020, passing on the CEO title to Bob Chapek. He remained with the company, serving as  He then was Executive Chairman until his formal retirement from the company on December 31, 2021. However, as controversy surrounding Chapek’s tenure continued to grow, Iger made a shocking return to the company and its CEO position on November 20th, 2022, and has held the post since. Iger will remain on the company’s board and serve as a “strategic advisor” following the turnover.

When D’Amaro succeeds Iger, he will become the 8th man to hold the title of Disney CEO, following Roy O. Disney, Donn Tatum, Card Walker, Ron W. Miller, Michael Eisner, and the aforementioned Iger and Chapek.
