NEWS: Disney Files Permit That Reveals Layout of New Tropical Americas Expansion

If you’ve been sad about Disney’s demolition of The Boneyard in DinoLand U.S.A. to make way for the new Tropical Americas land, we get it — that was a pretty awesome playground for kiddos to get their energy out!

The good news is that there’s a NEW playground on the way that will be part of Tropical Americas, so your kids will still have a place to play. We don’t know too much about the playground just yet, but we do have a bit of an update — new maps show us exactly where the playground will go in the land, as well as what the layout will look like!

The Boneyard closed in DinoLand U.S.A. on September 2nd, 2025, and it’s been under construction ever since. Disney confirmed back in June 2025 that a new play area will be in Tropical Americas. This will be great for parents to still allow kids to safely get their energy out, and for those who are kids at heart (that’s us!) to check it out as well. However, no specific theme has been announced.

Disney has just recently filed plans with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection that is now available to the public, and it shows us a little bit of what Disney is planning for the new playground. The plans reveal that the new area will NOT be in the former Boneyard location (as that will be home of the carousel attraction on the way, but instead will be located at the former Cretaceous Trail spot (located between DINOSAUR, soon to be the new Indiana Jones ride, and the former Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures location, which will become a retail location for Tropical Americas).

Based on the plans, we can see a few details of what could be on the way. It seems like the play area will have multiple slides, a structure for guests to climb on/around, and a few smaller themed areas inside the playground that match the vibe of the land as a whole.

The new Tropical Americas: Pueblo Esperanza land will feature attractions themed to Encanto and Indiana Jones, and will celebrate the beauty and biodiversity of the Tropical Americas. It’ll also feature a hacienda, a quick-service restaurant that will become one of the largest in Disney World, as well as a large fountain in the center of the land. While we’ll miss DinoLand, closing fully on February 2nd, we’re looking forward to experiencing what’s coming.
