7 New Problems Plaguing Disney World Hotels Right Now

No, you’re not imagining things. Disney World hotels are currently plagued with problems, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore this reality.

While Disney hotels still have a lot going for them — like great perks, top-notch amenities, and memorable theming — there are some very real issues popping up that are catching a lot of guests off guard. We’re going to take a look at seven problems we’re seeing at Disney World hotels that can seriously impact your trip if you’re not prepared.

1. Transportation Refurbishments Are Throwing Everything Off

Complimentary Disney World transportation is usually one of the biggest perks of staying on property… that is, when it’s up and running.

Disney’s Skyliner

It’s always possible you’ll see major disruptions due to transportation refurbishments. For example, the Wilderness Lodge boat is undergoing routine maintenance from January 12th through April 2026 (although the boat to Magic Kingdom will reopen on January 30th).

Additionally, the Disney Skyliner annually closes for a refurbishment (January 25th to January 31st in 2026, and January 24th to January 30th in 2027), affecting guests staying at Caribbean Beach, Riviera, Pop Century, and Art of Animation Resorts.

When these systems go down, buses pick up the slack, but that just means longer waits, crowded stops, and more room for unpredictable problems.

2. Constantly Changing Traffic Patterns Around Property

Driving around Disney World isn’t exactly the major draw of the resort. In fact, it’s become quite the headache.

Magic Kingdom Toll Plaza

Construction projects, lane closures, and rerouted entrances have all caused traffic to be volatile and a total nuisance. Roads you used last trip may suddenly be blocked, GPS instructions can be lagging or not updated, leading you into trouble, and it’s incredibly easy these days to find yourself adding unexpected time to your commute.

It can be especially frustrating during peak hours. If you’re renting a car or driving in for dining reservations, we’re not gonna lie — driving around the resort right now is stressful.

3. runDisney Chaos

runDisney weekends are fantastic events for enthusiastic runners — but they can create issues for other guests.

These marathons create logistical nightmares, from early-morning road closures to traffic backups to limiting access at certain resorts. In short, they can make getting around Disney World extremely difficult.

If you’re staying at or near a host resort and don’t realize a race is happening, you might wake up to odd bus schedules, blocked exits, and horrible travel times.

4. Parking Is Tight

Is it just me, or are resort parking lots feeling smaller than ever? Disney’s strict parking rules, blended with a lack of space, make parking for dining reservations a real challenge.

Parking Lot

You’re often given a very narrow window to park, and if you arrive early or late, you may be turned away. Even guests actually staying at resorts are struggling with full lots during peak times. Talk about frustrating!

5. Resort Lounges Are Packed with Convention-Goers

Resort hopping used to be a relaxing way to grab a drink or snack, but that’s getting harder when lounges are filled to the brim.

Lounges get increasingly packed with convention guests unwinding after a long day, which is understandable, but also makes it tougher for other guests to find seating or enjoy a quiet atmosphere. These spaces can become more ideal for networking rather than decompressing, unfortunately.

6. Massive Group Takeovers of Certain Hotels

Cheer teams, bands, sports teams, youth groups, international tour groups, and convention attendees can and often do take over entire resorts or at least huge room blocks.

Value and Moderate resorts are especially impacted, but not even Deluxe resorts are immune when a major convention comes to town.

This can mean longer lines for transportation, a louder atmosphere, crowded food courts, and a not-so-relaxed vibe that a lot of vacationers crave. Not to mention, it can simply be tougher to find a room at your preferred hotel.

7. An Influx of Rowdy Kids

Competition seasons are a lot of fun for kids, but they’re not particularly awesome for adults and families looking for a peaceful vacation. It’s impossible to ignore this issue that often plagues Disney World hotels — especially Value resorts — unfortunately.

All-Star Sports Lobby

Cheerleading and dance competitions, school trips, and youth events often line up with holiday weekends like MLK Day, Mardi Gras, and Presidents’ Day. The result? Packed resorts filled with large groups of kids.

All-Star Sports

Kids will be kids, after all — so get ready for rambunctious and crowded pools, late-night hallway noise, and a general uptick in chaos. If you’re traveling for a relaxing getaway, this timing can dampen your experience.

Truly, these issues shouldn’t keep you away from the Disney World hotels altogether. The pros still outweigh the cons by a significant margin. With that said, it’s more important than ever to plan your trip out and know what to expect. That’s where we can help.
