Have you ever walked through Disney World and thought, “How does it smell so good?” Sure, the summer scents aren’t always the best, but you can’t deny those sweet smells as you’re walking down Main Street, U.S.A.

One scent that seriously blows us away is the sugary sweet smells of the Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas Time Parade! Now, Walt Disney Imagineering is sharing the behind-the-scenes secrets.
If you didn’t know, Walt Disney Imagineering has a YouTube series called Imagineer That! on their YouTube channel. This is where you can learn a lot about how Imagineers make it all happen in each Disney park around the world, with a few secrets and announcements here and there. During their most recent episode, they shared where all the smells come from during Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade!

In the video, they shared that they added scents to the parade to remind guests of “their own happy holiday memories.” They shared that they have special scent machines “hidden” in the parade floats! These machines are made with a wax material with a specific scented oil for each float.

When a canister is warmed up, the oil evaporates. Then they flip a switch, and it pushes the scented air out with a fan.

When Clarabell’s Bake Shop float goes by, you can smell fresh-baked gingerbread! The Christmas Tree float with Mickey and Minnie smells like pine trees, and the Candy Factory with Goofy smells like peppermint.

While it might seem simple, we love knowing how the Imagineers think of everything, even down to smells! You can watch the full video below.
We love that this series breaks down so many aspects of the parks that we’ve wondered about for years! Disney shared that scent has been used as a tool for many years “because aromas have the ability to trigger strong, nostalgic emotions.” They noted rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Spaceship Earth, and Soarin all have those famous fragrances that Disney fans are obsessed with, and we are going to be the first to cosign that! We have candles inspired by those rides because the smells make us think of our favorite place.

Thanks to this video, we’re now shopping for candles and baking gingerbread cookies! As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney behind-the-scenes content.
