The Weird Reason Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Makes Me Anxious

When it comes to staying at Disney World hotels, that’s a luxury I rarely take part in. Writing from the hotels during the day, though? Yep, that’s a great day in my book!

I love working from the hotels!

Back during the Halloween season, I decided to work from the Magic Kingdom Resort hotels (all on the Monorail loop) before heading into the park for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party later that evening. I started out at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and while I eventually found a great spot, I started in the lobby, and learned VERY quickly that there are TWO things about this hotel that make me incredibly anxious.

If you haven’t been in the lobby of this hotel before, it’s two stories, which means that it’s pretty big and echo-y. Being autistic, I know I struggle with sound and noise more than many people do, but I wasn’t expecting to run into trouble here. Alas, I DID, but it wasn’t because of the guests — it was the design of the lobby!

Now, I was sitting in the lobby right around peak check-out time (which is before 11 AM, so 9-11 AM was pretty busy), but the way that basically ANY sound would bounce around the room was grating. However, it wasn’t people’s voices echoing that made me cringe, it actually had everything to do with the floor of this lobby.

The floor of this hotel lobby looks gorgeous. It looks like different pieces of stone melded together to form a floor, and it totally fits with the look of the hotel. However, I learned second-hand numerous times that it’s VERY slippery. While I was sitting in the lobby for around two hours, I saw three different groups nearly slip and fall, and that was only at the section immediately in front of me! It also looked like parts of the floor weren’t all the same height, so if someone’s shoe caught an edge wrong, they were more likely to trip.

This floor is tricky!

And then came the luggage carts. OH, THE LUGGAGE CARTS! I have a vendetta against them now, but ONLY at this hotel. When you roll a luggage cart (especially if it’s empty) across this floor, it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. It bumps over the stones SO loudly, and then echoes everywhere, making it 10 times louder. Not a fan, 0/10, do not recommend. It was slightly better when the luggage cart had something on it to weigh it down, but not by much.

However, I am happy to say that I did find the BEST place to work eventually, away from most of the noise. There’s bar seating in front of a gorgeous window right behind Kona Cafe, and that’s where I 100% recommend sitting. It was easy to find a seat, and I enjoyed sitting there for another hour or so before I headed off to the Grand Floridian to continue my writing.

This was the BEST spot to sit at!
