Planning a trip to Disney World and not sure where you should eat while you’re there? EPCOT is a fantastic place to start, since it’s home to some of our absolute favorites, but how do you know which locations are better than others?

That’s where we come in! We’ve eaten at all the restaurants on Disney World property, including both quick-service and table-service options. However, we revisit them frequently because we know things can change rapidly in the parks, and we want to provide you with updated information. We recently stopped by Kringla Bakeri og Kafé in EPCOT’s Norway Pavilion and are bringing you our FULL review!
Background
Kringla Bakeri og Kafé (often just called Kringla for short) opened with the Norway Pavilion in 1988, but did you know there was a time when the bakery wasn’t open every day? After the 2020 park closures, the spot reopened in late September of that same year, but it was only open for limited hours at first.

During its reopening, it was at first only open on weekends, but on November 10th, 2020, it returned to its regular schedule of being open each day, and it’s remained open each day since. It’s known for its freshly baked Norwegian pastries, which you can easily smell when you walk past the door — it’ll entice you inside for sure!
Atmosphere
The look of this bakery blends right in with the rest of the Norway pavilion, which makes it look like it’s part of a quaint Norwegian village. Inside, you’ll walk through and tell the Cast Members what you’d like from the case, and they’ll hand it to you before you check out.

There’s no seating inside, so you’ll want to go to the covered (yet still outdoor) seating area around back, or you can take it elsewhere in the pavilion. It’s important to note, though, that this spot doesn’t always have trays you can use, so if you’re snagging multiple items, you might need some extra hands or take multiple trips.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!
Food & Drinks
We grabbed the Norwegian Kringla for $7.49, which is a Pretzel-shaped Pastry with Sweet Fondant, Raisins, and Chocolate Topping.

Unfortunately, the pastry itself was very dry. It honestly didn’t have much flavor, and you mostly taste the vanilla and chocolate from the icing drizzle on top. That icing made this a very sweet treat, but it was hard to get past the dryness of the pastry. It tasted like it had been sitting for a while, which is disappointing, since this spot is supposed to be known for fresh pastries.

Next up was the School Bread for $5.49, which is a Sweet Roll filled with Custard and dipped in Coconut. This treat is already pretty divisive as is, because if you’re not a fan of coconut, you won’t enjoy the flavor or texture.

The bread here was also a bit dry, which was a disappointment, but a generous helping of custard filling inside helped a bit with the dryness. The custard is silky smooth and creamy, and the taste and texture remind us a bit of vanilla pudding, just slightly fluffier. On top is a layer of sweet vanilla icing, followed by toasted coconut. We loved the crispy texture from the coconut and the deep coconut flavor, as well as the cardamom that was added to the treat to give it more complexity. When you take a bite of everything, the coconut isn’t as prominent, but it still is present (hence why if you hate coconut, you won’t be a fan). We’d get it again, but would hope the bread is a bit fresher!

Our third treat was the Rice Cream for $4.29, which is Creamy Rice Pudding topped with Strawberry Sauce.

This is topped with a decent layer of strawberries in syrup, and we appreciated that it didn’t taste too artificial. The cream layer isn’t overly sweet and reminds us a bit of vanilla yogurt, but the consistency is a bit more fluffy. The rice in the cream is tender, but depending on how you feel about things like rice pudding, the texture may not be for you. If you want something to be completely smooth, we recommend skipping, but as for flavor, this was solid!

Our last treat was the Cinnamon Roll with Orange Cream Cheese Icing for $7.49, and this thing was MASSIVE! The cinnamon roll was fluffy with a light flavoring of cinnamon, and while we personally wished there was a bit more of the cinnamon flavor, if you prefer the dough flavor, this will be right up your alley.

The roll was also a bit dry (we sensed a theme; maybe it was just a bad day), but you get a huge dollop of sweet, creamy orange icing on top, which helped. The orange flavoring tastes very natural, and you can even see little pieces of orange zest. It isn’t overpowering, but adds a great bit of citrus and freshness to the cinnamon roll, which we enjoyed.

We’d be willing to give it another try and hope it’s a bit fresher!
Magic or Tragic?
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You’re looking for a sweet treat, but don’t want something generic
- You’re eating around the World Showcase and don’t want a full meal, or you’re doing a progressive dining technique
- You’ve got a big sweet tooth
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- You’re looking for the best pastries in EPCOT
- You want some more generic pastries, or you’re a pickier eater
- You don’t want to take a chance and have your pastry be dry

We do think we just caught the bakery on a bad day, but it is a little concerning, considering that we did stop by at the very beginning of the day, so the pastries shouldn’t have been sitting there that long. We’ll definitely give this one another try, and we still recommend it for unique sweet treats, but it may not completely blow you away.

It is a shadow of its former self. The pastries may be “fresh baked,” but they’re definitely “fresh baked” by being defrosted and put in an oven to heat up. They really did used to fresh bake there and offered other varieties of pastries as well. The creme horns were amazing. It used to be our little lesser known spot in Epcot for a snack, but we don’t stop there anymore because of the retail bakery quality.
The quality of everything has gone downhill since Norway has become Arendelle. I remember at time when you could get amazing pastries and sandwiches at Kringla.
