2026 is a year of flux for Walt Disney World. Massive construction projects like Piston Peak, Villains Land, Monsters, Inc. land, the Magic of Disney Animation, and Tropical Americas are reshaping the future of the resort, but causing a construction mess in the present.

In my 30+ years of visiting the Walt Disney World resort, I can’t quite remember a time when there was quite as much construction going on. In fact, these changes, along with price increases and other issues, are keeping some guests — including several of our readers — from visiting in 2026.
We recently asked our readers, “Are you skipping a Disney World trip in 2026? If so, why?” And received a litany of responses about everything from the aforementioned construction to prices and even political issues.
Construction and renovations were the main answers we received. Reader Allen wrote, “With all of the renovations and development going on, it is hard to justify the cost,” while reader Tanya added, “Too much construction. We’re gonna wait until it’s finished to go back.” Reader Jason agreed, writing, “Yeah, I am skipping 2026. I wanna wait until some of this construction is over. All the scrim and machines ruin the magic a bit.”

Reader John also mentioned construction, tying into several of the other answers we received, writing, “Yup. They’re charging the same price for 3/4 parks having major refurbs/closures. All in an attempt to keep up with Universal. Too much at one time, and the upgrades are poorly thought out.”

That leads us to the litany of answers we received from readers saying they were skipping Disney World due to the price. While many simply said “cost” without much elaboration, others went a bit more in-depth. Reader Cathy opined, “Too expensive! The crowds last week were a turn off. I loved meeting people, but to pay TOP dollar to be crowded on off days is a turn off”, while Shawnn added, “I don’t WANT to skip it, but it costs so much, even doing Pop Century, it takes a few years to save. Also, so much is torn up right now.”

Several guests provided alternate trips they were planning to take instead of going to Disney World. Many said they were visiting Universal — specifically Epic Universe — instead, while others said they were still taking Disney trips, but on the Disney Cruise line or to other locations like Anaheim’s Disneyland Resort or Disneyland Paris.

When we asked our riders why they were skipping out on Disney World in 2026, many did not hold back, citing cost, construction, and other factors as their reasons for sitting out a visit to the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” If you’re interested in sharing your thoughts on this, or any other Disney or travel-related topic, follow us on the AllEars Facebook to join in on the next conversation!

Are you skipping Disney World in 2026? Let us know why in the comments below.

Both DW and I in our vwry late 70’s have decided to skip the parks and AP’s till 2028 at least. As DVC owners we will do resort only stays in 1 BR villas while enjoying what the rest of the ‘World’ has to offer. I think we will do just fine without the hassle of the parks under construction.
