A fire has reportedly broken out on the Disney World Monorail this morning and is currently closed. Here’s what we know.

According to user @CHRIS_MAGIC_DCL on X (formerly known as Twitter), a fire broke out onboard the the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail (Monorail Silver) this morning. He stated that it smelled like burning electrical insulation, and there was a large amount of smoke coming out between the cars.

Another user, @MarleneBorrego3 on X shared a photo she took at the Grand Floridian as well. Here you can REALLY see that smoke coming out from in between the cars. Currently, it’s being speculated that it was an electrical fire, but Disney has not directly confirmed that information.

Fortunately, the monorail looked completely empty, as it’s likely that the monorail had just dropped everyone off at Magic Kingdom and no one was heading back. However, it’s also possible that Cast Members knew about the issue and sent the train back without anyone inside because they knew it was unsafe. Again, there’s no way to know for sure at this time.

As of 11:45 AM, the Monorail is unavailable for guests to use, meaning that to get to and from the park, you’ll need to take a bus to a resort or the Ferry. The monorail has not moved past its location near the Grand Floridian.

From what it looks like currently, it doesn’t appear that the Monorail will be moving anytime soon, so it’s possible the Monorail could remain closed for a large portion of the day.

Right now, transportation is backed up around the resorts since the Monorail isn’t running, so you’ll want to allow more time to get where you need to go. In this photo taken by David Wieczerzak, you can see all the individuals waiting to get on the boat from Grand Floridian to the park.
