“After Reading All of the Bad Reviews, We Were Pleasantly Surprised” — Is This Magic Kingdom Restaurant Really As Bad As Everyone Says?

Dining inside Be Our Guest is one of those bucket-list experiences that almost every Disney fan dreams of. But the reviews from real guests are mixed!

Full meal

After all, how often do you get the chance to eat inside the Beast’s castle? With soaring ceilings, enchanted rose details, and three beautifully themed dining rooms, this Magic Kingdom restaurant is as much an attraction as it is a meal. But with its high price tag and mixed reviews, many Disney fans are left wondering, is it really worth it?

Located in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, Be Our Guest offers a prix fixe, three-course menu for lunch and dinner. The meal currently costs $72 per adult and $43 per child (ages 3–9) before tax and tip, which definitely puts it in the “special occasion” category. You’ll choose from an appetizer, entrée, and dessert trio, all served with the castle’s signature bread service. The Beast himself makes occasional appearances, walking through the dining rooms to greet guests, though he does not stop at every table like a traditional character meal.

What Guests Are Saying

If you’ve scrolled through reviews of Be Our Guest, you’ve likely seen a mixed bag. Some guests have had magical experiences, while others walked away feeling underwhelmed. One guest recently wrote, After reading all of the bad reviews, we were pleasantly surprised with our first visit here. The French onion soup was fantastic…the filet was excellent…and even the bread and butter were great.” They praised the food quality and service, noting that their kids “downed the bread and butter pretty quickly.” Their biggest critique? The desserts didn’t quite live up to the rest of the meal, but overall, they left impressed.

On the flip side, others haven’t been as enchanted. One reviewer shared, The decor and aesthetic were very beautiful, however, the food was horrible… The steak hardly had seasoning and was overcooked.” Another guest described feeling rushed during their visit due to park operations, saying, All through dinner I felt like I was on a time crunch, which I HATE… the food came and that’s about where it ended.” And while some diners praised the presentation of the kids’ desserts, others noted that the lack of personal photos with the Beast left them disappointed, given the cost.

Our AllEars Experience

When we revisited the restaurant, we were genuinely impressed by the Steak Frites, which debuted a little over a year ago and still ranks among our favorite entrées in the park. The steak was tender, flavorful, and beautifully complemented by its sauce and fries, which were a clear step up in quality from the quality many guests have critiqued in the past.

We also found that the prix fixe meal, while pricey, felt fairly justified considering the portion size and the multi-course nature of the experience. Between the freshly baked bread service, hearty appetizers like the French onion soup, and the rich entrees, the meal left us feeling satisfied without being stuffed. The desserts may not have blown us away, but they were still a sweet ending to a truly immersive dining experience.

Who Will Love It (and Who Might Want to Skip)

If you’re a Disney fan who loves themed dining and wants to soak in that “wow” factor of eating in an actual castle, Be Our Guest is absolutely worth considering, especially if you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or first visit. The attention to detail in the decor is so fun, and for many, that’s half the fun. Foodies who appreciate French-inspired dishes like beef bourguignon or onion soup gratinée will likely find something to enjoy here, too.

That said, if your main priority is getting the best meal for your money, or if you’re on a tighter budget, this might not be the spot for you. Between the fixed pricing and the occasional inconsistency in food reviews, you’ll want to come in knowing you’re paying as much for the experience as you are for the food itself. Guests who prefer a more relaxed or personal character interaction may also find the “Beast walk-through” less fulfilling than other meet-and-greet dining options.

The AllEars Takeaway

So, is Be Our Guest really as bad as everyone says? In our opinion, no. While not perfect, the restaurant has clearly been improving, and our most recent visit was one of the best we’ve had there yet. The menu feels refreshed, the food quality has leveled up, and the immersive setting continues to deliver one of the most magical atmospheres in all of Disney World.
