“I Won’t Be Making That Mistake Again” — The #1 Regret of Staying at Disney’s Coronado Springs Hotel

One of our readers has a bone to pick with a certain Walt Disney World hotel.

Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort

Over my 30+ years visiting Walt Disney World, I’ve stayed at many of the complex’s resorts, including the Moderate Tier Coronado Springs Resort. While I personally enjoyed my time at the hotel — and we here at AllEars are generally fans of the resort, especially its food offerings — however, one of our readers has expressed a massive regret about visiting the resort.

Recently, we asked our readers what their favorite Walt Disney World Resort was on our Facebook Page. We received a litany of responses, ranging from classic favorites like the Polynesian to modern hotels like Art of Animation. However, one reader’s response about Coronado Springs caught our eyes.

According to reader Natasha, “It used to be Coronado and then they built the tower …”, a reference to the 15-story Gran Destino Hotel Tower, which opened at the hotel in 2019. They went on to share, “We recently caught the bus from MK (Magic Kingdom) to Coronado (Springs) to go to Disney Springs. We were tired and needed AC and it was the first bus that arrived. I totally forgot how loooooooooooong it takes on the bus loop!!! I won’t be making that mistake again.”

Coronado Springs

Natasha’s issue is perhaps unsurprising, given that Coronado Springs is one of the few Disney hotels that is serviced by only one Disney Transportation method: buses. There is no Monorail, Skyliner, or boat access to the resort, which in turn can make transportation to and from the resort from anywhere else on Walt Disney World property take a long time.

Off we go!

Now, to be fair, several other readers did speak positively of Coronado Springs. Reader Danielle wrote, “Coronado Springs was so immersive and grand and I just can’t get enough of the Spanish and Central American architecture/decor.”

Reader Starla added, “We recently stayed at Coronado Springs. We only booked it cause we needed an extra night because of a flight change. We loved it. We loved the restaurant selection! It was peaceful and quiet.” Perhaps taking into account what Natasha wrote, they added, “We only stayed the one night. And we didn’t use the bus system, so I (can’t) say anything about that.”

Coronado Springs

While there’s a lot to like about Coronado Springs, one of our readers has identified a transportation issue that will keep them from returning to the Moderate resort in the near future.

We think it’s super important to think of transportation when booking a Disney World hotel. The resort is LARGE, and if you have littles who will need to go back and rest, or if you just want to take a break midday yourself, thinking of how much time it takes to go back and forth is important. There are other moderate resorts that offer a wider range of transportation options, like Port Orleans and Fort Wilderness. There are even Value Resorts with Skyliner options. All of which will help you get from A to B a little bit more quickly!

  1. We personally love this resort and one of the reasons we keep coming back is because it only has buses. Ya, boats, monorail and the skyliner are all cool, but they do get pulled out of service, which can be a real pain. The buses usually take around 20 minutes from the time you get on to arriving at a park. But getting to Disney Springs usually takes a good 30 minutes or more for some reason, and the return bus stop is about as far away as you can get. Hate the tower at CSR and would never ever stay in it, what an eyesore. Just my opinion and you are welcome to yours. Oh, back in June we went from Epcot to HS on the skyliner, shop at 3 stores, found what we were looking for and were back at Epcot in just under 60 minutes, so that was cool.
