“If I Wanted a Hilton I’d Go Stay in One.” Why Disney Adults Are SKIPPING the Newest Disney World Hotel

A new hotel addition is opening soon in Disney World and we’re pretty darn excited about it.

Concept Art of the Island Tower

The new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is still currently under construction, but as of December 17th, it’ll be open for visitors. This Disney Vacation Club property will feature villas and bungalow options, a new restaurant, a terrace garden, plus a new splash pad and pool. But, some Disney Adults aren’t as thrilled as we are — here’s why.

The Island Tower will be the newest addition to the Polynesian Village Resort and will continue the hotel’s tropical vibe — with some modern touches. The lobby will have an art panel in the ceiling inspired by the Polynesian Islands with wildlife native to those places. According to Disney, “each animal holds a strong connection to the islands and symbolizes values important to Polynesians.”

Imagineers worked with dozens of artists from all over the world to create artwork that was unique to the new villas. There will be preserved moss walls, sculptures made from recycled fishing nets, and more all meant to be “inspired by the spirit of conservation and embody the rich cultures of Polynesia.”

The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will feature several different room types that will sleep from two to nine guests and will include duo studios, one- and two-bedroom villas, and new two-bedroom penthouse villas. Plus, there will be new dining options, recreation, and more.

We asked our readers on Facebook whether or not they planned on staying at the new Island Tower — here’s what they said.

While some replies said they would be interested in staying at the Island Tower, other readers weren’t so sure. One responded, “I doubt it. It is [sic] just doesn’t inspire island vibes in me. It’s to [sic] much like most other hotel – generic and soulless.”

Another reader replied, “No, if I stay at the Poly, I want more atmosphere.”

Many Disney Adults have commented that they’re not huge fans of this hotel addition — arguing that it seems too generic and doesn’t have a “Disney World” feel to it. One of our readers said that they likely wouldn’t be staying in the new building even though their favorite resort is the Polynesian because they are “not a big fan of that look.”

We even got a response that said, “Nah, if I wanted a Hilton I’d go stay at one.”

October construction

Some readers balked at the prices — which start at $826 per night for a Standard-View Studio — and said they wouldn’t be staying at the Island Tower in order to save money, opting to stay elsewhere on property instead.

Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what ends up happening when this new building officially opens on December 17th. We know we’ll be there to check it all out and bring you a look at everything you need to know!

  1. The Tower is quite beige. I like color when I stay at a Disney resort. I prefer the original Polynesian Village. The Moana rooms are really nice. We enjoyed staying there. Some of the DVCs look like generic condos. If I were wealthy and a DVC member, maybe I would prefer plain. To each is own
