Walt Disney World features a robust transportation system comprising buses, boats, Skyliner gondolas, and, of course, the Monorail, each with its own — sometimes obscure — rules.

I’ve been traveling to Disney World for over three decades, and over that time, I’ve come across a lot of rules — some official and some “unwritten” — that are NEED TO KNOW before taking a trip on any of Disney’s transportation platforms.
Let People Get Off Before Boarding
This may seem like “common sense” — and perhaps it should be — but if you’re waiting to board a bus, please let the people on the bus disembark first before trying to get on yourself.

Enter Through the Front Door of Buses
Speaking of boarding buses, you should always get on through the front door, not the back. Granted, most of the time, Disney’s bus stop queues make this the only way to board, but it’s still something to keep in mind.

No Luggage on the Bus
Disney buses don’t allow luggage. So, if you’re arriving at Disney Springs from Orlando Aiport or perhaps switching hotels in the middle of your stay, bear in mind you’ll need another way to get to your next hotel destination.

Strollers Need to be Folded on Buses
If you’re traveling with youngsters on a Disney World bus, you’ll need to remove them from their stroller and fold it up for the ride. Yes, even if it’s the end of a long day and they’re napping.

Be Prepared for the Bus to Get BRIGHT
Speaking of the end of the night, buses home from the parks have the lights off to maintain a relaxed atmosphere. Just be prepared for the lights to turn on and feel as bright as the midday sun when you arrive at your hotel.

Ferryboat Boarding
Disney’s fleet of ferryboats requires anything with wheels to remain open on the boat’s bottom level.

Be Aware of Your Monorail Lane
Some Walt Disney World Monorail boarding lanes are designated for accessibility purposes. While riders may line up in these lanes, you may be asked to move over if you’ve been standing at one and it needs to be used for that purpose.

EPCOT Extended Evening Hours Changes
During Extended Evening Hours at EPCOT, the Skyliner only runs between EPCOT and the Riviera Resort, as Extended Evening Hours are only available to guests at Deluxe Tier hotels. So, if you’re not a Deluxe Tier guest but staying at one of the other Skyliner line resorts and you plan on taking the Skyliner back from, say, dinner at The Boardwalk — you’ll need to find another way to get back to your hotel.

If you’re going to be taking Disney World transportation anytime soon, be sure to keep these rules in mind and stay tuned to AllEars.
