2 Disney Rides That Will Be Closed in Magic Kingdom for the Rest of 2025

While it may mess up your park plans — and we know how frustrating that is — ride closures and refurbishments are a part of life in Disney World. The likelihood of seeing ALL rides available in all four parks on a given day is practically impossible.

If you’re heading to Magic Kingdom at any time over the rest of 2025, we’ve got some bad news — these TWO rides will be closed for the remainder of the year.

Over in Frontierland, you’ll find Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, AKA The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness, closed for the remainder of the year. It’s been closed since early January 2025, as the coaster is currently undergoing a full track replacement and refurbishment.

Disney announced that the ride would be closed through 2025 and reopen sometime in 2026 with “new magic.” While there’s no confirmation on what exactly that might be, guests are guessing that it could mean effects added to the final tunnel sequence, similar to what you see in Disneyland.

Tons of construction!

The second closure is newer — Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will be closing on August 4th, 2025, to make way for an improved version of the attraction! Yes, this ride won’t be leaving the park, but it’ll be getting a number of improvements.

Are you a Galactic Hero?
  • A new scene at the beginning of the ride will feature a new robot character, Buddy, who will make sure guests are “fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim” — aka, he’ll make sure you know how to play!
