Magic Kingdom is going through a lot of changes, and (WARNING!) it’s going to be under construction for a while.

As Disney prepares for construction on the new Cars area in Frontierland, as well as the new Villains Land expansion nearby, be prepared for some new walls and construction equipment. Let this be your reminder that the Walt Disney World Railroad will be changing (a lot sooner than you might think)!Â
OK, everyone take a deep breath in — so Disney first announced that the Walt Disney World Railroad will remain OPEN during the construction period. This is not a TRON Lightcycle / Run situation where the Railroad is completely closed — take a deep breath out. If you remember, way back when TRON was being built, the Railroad was fully closed!

That won’t be the case this time, because the Walt Disney World Railroad will stay open for guests to use…well, part of it. Only PART of the route will remain running during the upcoming construction in Frontierland. This change will begin on July 7th, 2025.

The Frontierland station for the Railroad falls between Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (which is closed right now). You’ll see that the track goes past Big Thunder behind it, taking you around the backside of what will be a construction zone for the new areas.

You’ll also see the planned locations of both the new lands coming to Magic Kingdom. We may see some behind-the-scenes videos of construction updates via Disney, but Disney doesn’t want guests seeing all the construction activity in the park. That would ruin the magic — and you’ll see the Railroad goes in between both new areas.

So, that means the Walt Disney World Railroad will be running from the Main Street station to the Fantasyland station. You have a couple more weeks to take the train around the full park before the change begins. Remember, the Frontierland station will be closed as of July 7th.

July 7th will be a big day of change at the Magic Kingdom, because that’s the day Tom Sawyer Island, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and the Rivers of America are officially closing. The last day to experience those attractions will be July 6th.

Is there a reason why they are closing hte Frontierland station? They could run the train from Frontierland to Mainstreet and then to Fantasyland, and then in reverse.
