Enjoy your Rat Pizza while you can!

Last year, Disney announced that the Hollywood Studios area once known as Muppet Courtyard would be closing to a make way for construction of the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-land. While most of the fan ire about this announcement was directed at the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, Jim Henson’s final project wasn’t the only Muppet-related space on the chopping block, as the closure also marks the end of PizzeRizzo.
The idea of a Muppet-themed restaurant in this area long predated PizzeRizzo, which first opened in 2016. However, decades before then, plans were in place for a full Muppet land in the area, including the Great Muppet Movie Ride and a Muppets-themed restaurant where Mama Melrose’s was eventually built. In fact, according to a theme park urban legend, that restaurant’s infrastructure featured tracks built into the ceiling that were allegedly once planned for versions of Rizzo to deliver guests food.

Following Henson’s 1990 death, plans for the land were scuttled, which is part of why it took over 25 years for PizzeRizzo to open. The restaurant, which is a either a delightfully themed quick service establishment full of Muppet easter eggs or a lazily quick service eatery with “pizza” that’s an insult to the very concept of food depends on who you ask. However, your time to make your own decision is quickly running out.
Along with Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo will have its final day of operation on June 7th.

While the Muppets will live on at Hollywood Studios with the the characters taking over the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, which Disney says will bring “laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”, there’s no word that any Muppets food or restaurant, let alone anything PizzeRizzo, will be making the move across the park.

Along with the rest of the former Muppet Courtyard area, PizzeRizzo will see its final day of operation on June 7th, as the area closes to make way for Monstropolis. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Disney World’s ongoing transformation.
