The official Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1st to November 30th, marking the time of year when the most tropical cyclone activity typically occurs. And according to meteorologists, a severe storm system could develop just days after the season kicks off.

As the Atlantic hurricane season nears its start, AccuWeather meteorologists are tracking conditions that point to a potential tropical development in the Caribbean starting late next week.

Rainy day at Disney World

AccuWeather’s hurricane experts have issued a low-risk zone for tropical development potential in the Caribbean Sea from June 6th through June 13th. Meteorologists are tracking atmospheric conditions and a pulse of low pressure that could be conducive to storm development in the Gulf beginning late next week.

Meteorologist Alex Duffus said, “This pulse will be moving slowly through the zone from the western Caribbean and southern Gulf around the same time when a surge of moisture may develop. For these reasons and a reduction in disruptive winds in the region, we believe there is a low chance for tropical development.” If the first tropical depression or tropical storm of the 2025 season does develop, where it tracks will depend on both how fast it ramps up and the steering breezes.

Regardless of the potential tropical development, heavy rain is expected across Florida, part of the Bahamas, Cuba, and Jamaica in early June as a front tracking across the Gulf and the Florida Peninsula could stall over the region.

  1. Oh no! I’m heartbroken because our first trip ever is the 8th – 13th! We are supposed to stay in the Fort Wilderness Cabins, will this area be effected? Do they close the parks, and how bad are they if they don’t close? Do the rides and shows and characters all get closed?
