May is a HUGE month for theme park fans. We’ll admit it — most people are gonna be thinking about the grand opening of Epic Universe this May, since the park officially opens on May 22nd. But, don’t worry, we won’t forget about ya, Disney World! In fact, there are some FUN new additions coming to Disney World, so let’s talk about all the changes coming to Disney World this May!

Somehow, May is right around the corner, and that means a bunch of new Disney World CHANGES are on the horizon. If you’re planning a trip to Disney World this May, here are all the biggest changes and events happening throughout the month!
May the Fourth
Star Wars Day (May 4th) at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is coming soon! This is your time to celebrate all things Star Wars, so look out for tons of Star Wars fans, exclusive merchandise, and special treats.

Most of the celebration takes place in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the exclusive merchandise is typically only available on May 4th. If you’re an Annual Passholder, note that all park reservations for Disney’s Hollywood Studios are currently booked for May 4th, 2025.

EPCOT Closing Early
Mark your calendars! On May 21st, 2025, EPCOT will be closing early for a private event that begins at 7:30 PM.

The private event is a buy-out for the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference Orlando. All other guests will have to exit the park, so be prepared for places like Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be a little more crowded in the evening.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Changes
We’ve been WAITING for this one, people. Starting May 27th, 2025, both Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After and The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure will begin daily performances!

That’s right — TWO new shows are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the same day. Showtimes will be posted on the My Disney Experience app, so make sure to check the schedule before your visit. We have a feeling these new shows will be popular, so be prepared for BIG crowds.

V.I.PASSHOLDER Days
Great news, Annual Passholders! Disney just announced that V.I.PASSHOLDER Summer Days are BACK for 2025! This is the time for all kinds of Passholder exclusives, like limited-time discounts, experiences, and secret “Passholder fun” at Disney World! The event runs from May 14th to July 31st, 2025.

In the past, we’ve seen special character meet-and-greets, an exclusive lounge, and even complimentary treats just for Passholders. Disney hasn’t revealed exactly what’s in store for this year’s event, so stay tuned for more details.
Holidays
Be prepared! There are TWO big holidays happening in May, which could bring additional crowds to the parks. First, there’s Cinco de Mayo (also known as “Revenge of the Fifth” for Star Wars fans), and May 26th is Memorial Day.

I will be celebrating my 70th birthday (May 17th) at Disney World. I’m a Volunteer for Florida Cancer Specialists org. I love to give back so I’ll be buying some special ear headbands, because I where a different pair of ears every day I work. I also give a pair of my ears away when a parent has their last chemo treatment….thank you Disney for spreading the joy!
