Come With Us To Say Goodbye to a Divisive Animal Kingdom Attraction Before It Permanently Closes

Today’s the day, friends — another Animal Kingdom attraction is going away forever.

Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Don’t worry, it’s not in DinoLand, USA, although that area is still undergoing its massive refurbishment and will continue to close in sections over the coming months and into 2026. Today is the final day you’ll be able to experience It’s Tough to Be A Bug, the show in the Tree of Life theater, before it begins its transformation, and we’re here to experience it!

This 4D show has been around since 1998, the same year A Bug’s Life debuted in theaters. In this show, you join Flik as he puts on a talent show of sorts, showing you just how great, but difficult, being a bug can be. However, Hopper takes over, blaming the humans for the reason it’s tough to be a bug, and essentially terrorizes the audience. Thanks to a chameleon with great aim, though, the theater is saved.

The final day!

The 3D glasses you’re given look like special “bug eyes,” but we did notice just about a week ago that these glasses were gone, and other regular 3D glasses you find around the resort (like those found at Muppet*Vision 3D) had replaced them. We’re happy to report, though, that on this final day, the bug glasses returned for one last hurrah!

Bug Glasses!

We’re going to miss this show simply because it’s nostalgic, but we do have to recognize that this show terrified a lot of guests both adults and children. Even if you don’t have a fear of bugs, the way you’ve got water and air blown at you unexpectedly (and considering how you’re poked and prodded on multiple occasions) definitely made this show less family-friendly.

Slightly terrifying

Don’t worry, though — the theater isn’t going away! While the show itself is, the Tree of Life Theater we know and love will become home to a new show inspired by Zootopia called Zootopia: Better Zoogether! The new show is set to debut in winter 2025, so stay tuned for an opening date.

So thank you, It’s Tough to Be A Bug, for all the memories — yes, even those that were filled with unexpected screams of fear and terrified people of all ages — we’ll never forget you!
