Disney Needs New Rules for TRON Lightcycle / Run

It’s undeniable that TRON Lightcycle / Run is one of the coolest rides at Magic Kingdom!

TRON Lightcycle / Run

Whether it’s the futuristic bike-style seating or that epic outdoor launch, this ride is a high-speed adrenaline rush. That being said, while Disney nailed the ride experience, a couple of tweaks could make the whole thing even better. Let’s dive into two new rules we think Disney should adopt for TRON.

Rule #1: Make Seating Preferences Clear Before the Boarding Station

TRON’s bike-style seats are undeniably part of what makes this ride so unique. But let’s face it, they’re not for everyone. Some guests may not find the position comfortable or might just prefer the more traditional upright seating option.

TRON Test Seats

Currently, if you want to ride in the upright seat, it’s not exactly intuitive how to make that happen. You’re shuffled through the line with everyone else, and it’s only at the boarding station that you’re able to request the alternative seat. Not only does this slow down the loading process, but it can also feel a little chaotic for anyone caught off guard by the system.

Inside TRON Lightcycle / Run

Disney can streamline this by having the Cast Members ask about seating preferences earlier in the queue. Maybe they could do it right after scanning MagicBands at the ride entrance. This would allow the them to better organize the line and direct riders where they need to go before things get hectic. A smoother process means happier guests and a faster-moving line, which is something I think everyone can get behind.

Rule #2: You Have to Wave Back at Ground-Level Fans

This one’s less about logistics and more about keeping the Disney magic alive. If you’ve ridden TRON Lightcycle / Run, you know that one of the coolest moments is the outdoor launch. The coaster bursts out into the open air with its dramatic lighting effects, and everyone on the ground is either snapping pics or waving at the riders.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

Here’s the problem: not enough people wave back! It’s a little awkward watching the coaster fly by with everyone on the ground enthusiastically waving, only to see a bunch of riders completely absorbed in the launch (or just too stunned to think about waving).

TRON Lightcycle / Run

So here’s the new rule: If someone waves at you from the ground, you’re obligated to wave back. It’s just good Disney manners. Plus, it keeps the energy high for everyone – both on and off the ride. Imagine how much more fun those launch moments would be if every single rider joined in the wave frenzy. Disney magic isn’t just about the attractions; it’s about those tiny moments of shared joy between guests.

The truth is, Disney is at its best when it leans into the details, and these tweaks would show just how much they care about the guest experience. So, Disney, what do you think? Let’s make these new rules official.

  1. The problem with waving back is part of the instructions are you’re not supposed to let go of the handles so people who are waving back or breaking the rules

  2. I’m with ya on the waving! Maybe they can post a character experience out there and have goofy or stitch starting the wave.
As for upright riders, you can’t pre accommodate, otherwise it will get taken advantage of, similar to a single rider lane clogged up with families.

  3. I agree with the first suggestion. I’m fairly tall, and sliding into the cycle is not the most comfortable thing. Moving a party of people around causes delays in the line that spoils the experience when you don’t know how to get timely assistance. The cast members aren’t always the most intuitive people either…

  4. Have always wanted to try the back regular upright seats. If only just to see how the ride is and a regular coaster. Maybe next time. If they presort I hope that doesn’t fast track the back seat riders in front of everyone else.

Disney needs to do something about that queue though. Talk about boring. I gladly pay just to skip that bland line.

Waving is fun for sure, we always do. Not sure why.

  5. I forgot to add I think making those that would like a sitting position put into a lightning lane type line and adding another sitting car at the end would be a good idea. I think more people would ride.

  6. My son ans I are annual pass holder and in MK our favorite ride is ATron. But He and I both have disabilities. He is blind in one eye and legally blind in the other I have a fused neck and an artifical shoulder I can’t raise my head to see anyone on the ground but I wooouls love to be able too!He can’t see the ground he just loves the ride. So don’t be disapointed when some people do’t waive. I can’t lift my armes over my head so he does on all the other coasters for us both! Love All Ears!
