Over my 30+ years visiting Disney World I’ve learned a lot of rules about visiting the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” Some of those rules are official, like what you can and can’t bring into the parks, while others are unspoken rules that everyone just sort of knows – or would quickly learn – they need to follow.

However, some Disney fans aren’t thrilled about always following certain rules, including this hotel rule that Disney tends to enforce during busy times, like around the holidays.
If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!
During busier times in Disney World, if you’re not staying at a particular hotels, you may be prohibited from parking at those hotels, as well as using Mobile Order at the hotel’s quick service restaurants. You may also be restricted from visiting certain hotels during busier periods, like during the Golf Cart Parade at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Now sometimes, this isn’t a problem, but we’ve seen this come up during busier times, including the holidays. You may even see a message pop up on the My Disney Experience app if you try to Mobile Order at a restaurant that’s at a hotel you’re not staying at.

We’ve also had instances of where we weren’t allowed to park at a hotel without an advance dining reservation at a restaurant there. However, Disney did tweak this rule at one popular hotel in 2025. During the spring, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort altered its parking policy to allow non-resort guests to park in the hotel’s main parking lot if they were dining at spots that do NOT require a reservation after 2 PM.

We asked you, our readers, what you thought about this rule on Facebook, and got a few replies. Interestingly enough, Laura said, “I honestly never knew this was a rule!”

We don’t know if this rule is written down anywhere. It’s just something that Disney puts in place when hotels are busier than normal.

Teresa said she’d never come across the rule: “Never been blocked from placing a mobile order at any of the Magic Kingdom resorts. I stay at Beach Club so no issues on the boardwalk but I have placed orders at all 4 of the MK properties and never been blocked.”
It’s likely many guests haven’t as it is something we only see happen during specific times in Disney World.

However, Rhonda has seen such a rule put in place: “I have seen them turn people away from the Polynesian Beach during fireworks while staying there.”
Michelle had a similar story: “I was a guest at the Grand Floridian over the 4th of July and they had the beach blocked off for resort guests only and they were giving wristbands and checking room reservations.”

We want to make you aware of the rule, just in case. Like we said, it isn’t ALWAYS enforced, but if you’re visiting Disney World this holiday season, you may expect that it won’t be easy to park at a hotel other than your own.
There are two ways around this, though! First, you can take Disney transportation to the hotel. Depending on where you’re staying and where you’re going, you may need to take a couple of buses to do this — but it can be done. One of the simplest ways by bus is to take a bus from your hotel to one of the parks or Disney Springs, and then take a bus from there to the hotel you want to visit. The second way around this, of course, is by making a dining reservation for a restaurant at the hotel you’d like to visit.

And you could also take a rideshare (like Uber or Lyft) to a resort — you don’t need a reservation to be dropped off there. It will cost you a bit, but is probably the fastest way to get there.
There are plenty of rules, official and unofficial, to follow at Walt Disney World, and we’re keeping tabs on them for you. Check back with AllEars again soon for more.
7 Hotel Rules Tourists Break That Scream “This Is My First Time in Orlando”
Have you ever come across this rule in Disney World? Let us know in the comments!

As a hotel guest, I like having capacity controls enacted. When paying deluxe hotel prices, it’s nice not to have to fight through too-crowded situations.
This irks me to no end. We like to go to the Boarwalk to visit Abracadabar especially but they make it difficult sometimes and won’t let you park. I hate feeling like I’m doing something wrong, even though we’re DVC members and always stay at a DeLuxe resort.
When at Disney, we were informed that if you are staying at any deluxe resort, you are also allowed to park at any deluxe resort during your stay (i.e., staying at Contemporary you will be allowed to park at Boardwalk). We have been turned away from parking at a deluxe resort (Polynesian, Animal Kingdom Lodge) when it was busy and we didn’t have a dining reservation.
We have tried to go for drinks at the Enchanted Rose at the Grand and have been turned away numerous times.
Greedy Disney! When we went to see the gingerbread house we were told we had to park at the TTC. It’s their way of suckering another $30 dollars out of you which is unnecessary!
We stayed at Port Orleans in August 2024. We had early dinner reservations at Beach Club and first tried to park at the Boardwalk (to shop ahead of time) and were turned away. We were only allowed to park at Beach Club an hour before our reservation 🙁
