EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival began a few weeks ago, and we’re already back trying a NEW dish!
On the first day of the festival, we tried all there is to experience at this festival — the entertainment, the food booths, the scavenger hunts, and everything in between! However, the China Pavilion has a NEW treat available for a limited time to celebrate the annual Moon Festival, and we checked it out to tell you if it’s worth the stop!
From now through September 21st, you can grab the Snowy Mooncake for $8.25 at the China booth at the Food and Wine Festival! This is a Butterfly Pea Flower-infused Snow Skin Mooncake with Creamy Custard filling.
Let’s go to EPCOT to try a new treat!

For reference, snow skin mooncakes are a non-baked treat originating from Hong Kong. This dessert is often compared to mochi ice cream, so don’t go in expecting a regular bakery treat here. The texture is a little different than a typical cake or baked good.
Honestly, we felt very indifferent about this one. The outer coating is almost like a mochi texture — it holds its form very well, but it was way tinier than what we were hoping. We knew it would be small, but this was on a different level!
The inside, we wanted to say, was like a cake pop, but the truth is that the consistency was more like a compacted egg yolk in a hard-boiled egg. That sounds terrible; we know, and we will honestly say that the flavor was fine — it has more of a vanilla flavor — but the texture may be very off-putting to those sensitive to unique textures.
There wasn’t a ton of strawberry gel at the bottom and there wasn’t a lot of floral taste, so it really just tasted like a vanilla cake pop but with an uncommon texture and a mochi-like outside. It’s alright, but we don’t think it’s worth the price. It’s gorgeous and a cool celebration treat, but we don’t think it’s something you should necessarily go out of your way to get.
