Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of EPCOT’s newest and most popular attractions.
As of late, when a new ride opens at Disney World, Disney implements its Virtual Queue system. This system allows for you to reserve a boarding group for popular attractions in the My Disney Experience app. This allows you to be able to “wait” for the attraction without having to wait in an extremely long line. However, in most cases, you will still have to wait in the Virtual Queue line, so it does not grant you faster boarding than the Lightning Lane line would.
At Disney World, only three rides use Virtual Queue, and that number is about to drop to two.
Currently, the only way to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, TRON Lightcycle / Run, or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is to obtain a Virtual Queue. You can also ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure by purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass. To use Lightning Lane for TRON Lighcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, you can buy Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Virtual Queue is a free service that opens up each day at 7AM and 1PM. You can reserve your first Virtual Queue outside of the park. At 1PM, you must be in the park where you are trying to reserve a Virtual Queue. You can only hold one Virtual Queue at a time.
Some people really like Virtual Queue because it allows them to spend time waiting online while getting to experience other parts of the park. The problem is that Virtual Queue can get snagged in seconds, and if you are not fast enough, you could end up out of luck.
A stand-by line would allow anyone to ride the attraction without having to reserve a Virtual Queue or pay for Lightning Lane.
As of September 9th, TRON Lightcycle / Run will move to using a stand-by line along with Lightning Lane. This means that Virtual Queue will only now be for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
This does not surprise us as both TRON Lightcyle / Run and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are running as a stand-by line during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
So what does this mean for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind? Well, let’s take a look at previous attractions.
Rise of the Resistance opened at Disney World on December 5th, 2019. The attraction stopped using Virtual Queue in September 2021. Granted, the park was closed for four months during this time.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opened on October 1st, 2021, to celebrate Disney World’s 50th birthday, and only a few months later, in January 2022, did the attraction switch to a stand-by line.
TRON Lightcycle / Run opened in April of 2023 and will stop using a Virtual Queue 17 months later on September 9th, 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at the end of June. While it is currently running a stand-by line during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, it still has used Virtual Queue during regular park hours for the last two months.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened in May of 2022 and is still using Virtual Queue 27 months later. This makes it the ride that has used Virtual Queue the longest. With TRON Lightcyle / Run opening a stand-by line, will Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind follow suit?
It’s not clear at this time; it is an anomaly to have a ride use Virtual Queue this long. TRON Lightcycle / Run may be used to help gauge when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind should move to a stand-by line. It also could be possible that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind never stops using Virtual Queue as boarding groups go quickly every day.
We will just have to wait and see how well the stand-by line works for TRON Lightcycle / Run and whether it will affect a potential stand-by line for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We’ll keep you updated on any changes so stay tuned!

Guardians of the Galaxy is easily the best ride at WDW with Rise of the Resistance a close second. I can see Guardians continuing to have a virtual queue long after Tiana’s stops. It could be once the new Test Track opens, they switch the VQ over to Test Track. Personally I love VQ and wish they still had one for Rise of the Resistance and one for Flight of Passage.
