A Word of Warning About One Popular Single Rider Line in Disney World

Disney World has some pretty epic rides, right?!

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run

And Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a good number of them all in one park! I mean, where else can you bounce along on Slinky Dog Dash, enter the Twilight Zone with Tower of Terror, and go for a crazy limo ride with Aerosmith on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster? We haven’t even talked about Rise of the Resistance. Speaking of all those amazing rides, if you’re planning to hop in the Single Rider Line for this one popular Hollywood Studios ride in particular, well there’s a warning we’ve got to give you!

If you’re like me and you’re always looking for ways to maximize your park time, then you’ll probably be frequenting the single rider line for a ride or two. I mean, in some ways, it’s the simplest hack you can use to save a bit of time at Disney World. But, as we were saying, there’s this one particular attraction where that single rider line almost always comes with a catch — Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Let’s talk about it!

Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run

As you know, this ride is incredible. Is there a more immersive way to become part of the Star Wars universe than to take on the role of a pilot, gunner, or engineer on a space mission?? What more could we as Star Wars fans ask for?

Now, about the single rider line, let’s start off with the good news. When I say this line has a tendency to move fast, I’m not kidding. I mean crazy fast. For example, on a recent trip, the normal standby line had everyone waiting a solid 50 minutes, but from the entrance to when I walked on the ride was only about two minutes. Yep, you read that right. I tracked it and it was just two minutes. So, if you’re in a rush or you don’t mind riding solo, this line is going to be your best friend. But here’s where our word of warning comes in.

If you’re a single rider, you’re almost guaranteed one thing: You’re NOT going to be the pilot. Also, you’re probably not going to be the gunner either. There is a (ridiculously) high chance that you’ll end up as the engineer.

Now, being an engineer isn’t bad per se, but let’s be real. We all want to be the pilot. Where else can you steer the Falcon, make the jump to lightspeed, and fulfill every other childhood Star Wars fantasy you’ve ever had? So, if you’ve been daydreaming about being the pilot, you’re probably going to need to rethink your strategy.

So, here’s the bottom line: If your whole goal is to experience Smugglers Run as the pilot, you’re better off sticking with the regular line or using a Lightning Lane pass. But if you’re okay with being part of the crew and love the idea of cutting down your wait time significantly, then the single rider line is definitely the way to go.

  1. One other thing – sometimes the single rider line here is actually longer. One time I tried to ride, the cast member actually waved me off and said the standby line was shorter. However – on another trip, I rode twice back-to-back in about 15 minutes. And yes, every time I’ve been aboard, I’ve been the Flight Engineer.
