Okay, so we need to talk about EPCOT.

We all know and love EPCOT. Love the rides, all the educational spaces, and of course, we love all the international cuisine. The park went through a major glow-up recently. We love 99.9% of it all, but there’s this one fatal flaw in EPCOT’s newest attraction that we don’t love, and we’ve got to talk about it!
As we were saying, we’re not here to talk about EPCOT’s rides or even the food. No, we’re talking about the actual fatal flaw in EPCOT’s newest, shiniest attraction: the complete and utter lack of shade in Communicore Plaza.

So, let’s cut right to it. Here we’ve got CommuniCore Plaza, which is supposed to be the heart of the park’s reimagined World Celebration area. It’s got all the elements of a Disney attraction: beautiful landscaping and dedicated performance spaces. Sounds great, right? But as soon as you step into this space, and you’re immediately hit by ONE glaring problem — there’s virtually no shade.

Now, anyone who’s ever been to Florida knows that the Sunshine State doesn’t play around. It’s either scorching hot or pouring rain (and sometimes both in the same hour!). And this isn’t Disney’s first rodeo either, which begs the question, “How did they miss the mark so completely on this one?”

We’ve got an amazing Encanto show, but then you have to stand outside in all the Florida heat and humidity to watch it. What were they thinking?

Now on the flip side you’ve got CommuniCore Hall. It’s not exactly the most thrilling space, and yes, it’s been compared to a cafeteria more than once, but at least it’s indoors and air-conditioned! When we’ve got to make a choice between hanging out in the “cafeteria” or baking in the plaza, we know where we’ll be.

In the end, it feels like CommuniCore Plaza is a space that was designed without fully considering the guest experience. I mean, we shouldn’t have to choose between comfort and enjoyment. They should go hand in hand.

Ultimately, we’re not asking for anything crazy here, just some strategically placed shade structures, some more trees, or even those sail shades you see in other parks. The space would be so much cooler if you could actually sit and relax without worrying about getting heatstroke.

So, Disney, if you’re listening, please give us some shade in CommuniCore Plaza. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just functional.

There you have it. That’s our thoughts on this glaring flaw in the CommuniCore Plaza in EPCOT, and now we’d love to hear yours! Until then, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so keep it right here for more.

What are your thoughts about the CommuniCore Plaza in EPCOT? Tell us about it in the comments!
They really blew it on this redesign. I miss that gorgeous, centerpiece fountain with its beauty, magnificence, and cooling mist.
What a total waste of time, money and a total lack of true
“Epcot” theme. Walt Disney had a real vision of what the
purpose of Epcot was to be and the promise it held.
The old Epcot Communicore and Inventions at least had the vision of
the future and was a great experience.
Now, we have a new dining hall and a park. The park, well ok, nice. However,
no fountain? As far as I’m concerned, this was an epic failure on all accounts.
Worst of all it has nothing to do with the Epcot theme. Speaking of the park
and Walt statue, Walt is now forced to look at what “they” did to his dream.
How sad and frustrating to all of us who experienced Epcot
from the beginning. The Disney company really failed Walt.
