New construction walls have popped up at Walt Disney World.

Construction walls have popped up around one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular restaurants, and we did our best to find out why… and whether the dining room was still available.
Located on Main Street U.S.A., The Plaza Restaurant — themed as a “casual dining parlor awash in a sophisticated elegance” and offering “a mouthwatering lunch or a family dinner with decadent desserts, (where) you’ll discover something for everyone in an atmosphere of early 20th-century style — featuring Art Nouveau touches, beautifully embellished light fixtures, stunning decorative mirrors and an inviting solarium” — has been a staple at the Magic Kingdom for decades. Earlier this week, we noticed a slew of construction walls up around the restaurant’s dining room.

We spoke with a cast member about the work. They told us that they could not confirm exactly what was being done, but that things would be “shadier” soon.
In addition, this cast member confirmed that the restaurant’s dining room was still open during the construction. When we inquired as to whether that meant that diners could see the back of the construction walls, they told us that there is currently a film over the inside windows with a flower pattern, and that’s what guests see as they eat.

We would imagine that this construction/refurb project will wrap rather quickly, considering the Plaza is remaining open during whatever work is going on. Of note, the restaurant is also one of the Magic Kingdom full-service restaurants that will be available during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which begins on August 9th and runs on August 13th, 16th, 20th, 23rd, 27th, and 30th; September 2nd, 6th, 8th, 10th, 13th, 15th, 17th, 20th, 22nd, 24th, 26th, 27th and 29th; October 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, 24th, 25th, 27th, 29th and 31st.

It remains to be seen how long the Plaza Restaurant will be behind construction walls, or how much visible change there will be when they come down. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on this ongoing Magic Kingdom project.
