Two of Disney’s most popular merchandise experiences are changing in a massive way!

When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019, two of the most in-demand experiences were building remote control droids at the Droid Depot and constructing lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop. These heavily-themed and intricate merchandise experiences were so popular that Disney required guests to book a reservation on the Disney World app and include a credit card which would be charged upon arrival on the day of the reservation. However, that’s now changed at Disney World.

As of April of 2024, the payment models of both Droid Depot and Savi’s Workshop have changed. Now, the experiences are moving to a pre-payment model, where the on-file credit charge will be charged upon booking.

Furthermore, AP and DVC discounts do not apply to the pre-payments. However, as far as Droid Depot goes, the immediate charge will only apply to the purchase of the basic droid-building package.

Further accessories and pieces can be purchased on the day of during the build, and AP and DVC discounts will apply.

As far as we know so far, this change is only coming to Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, with Disneyland seemingly retaining the original payment structure as of now.
