Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is Currently CLOSED in Disney World

Have you ever been in line for an attraction you were really excited to ride and then it went down?

It’s happened to us before, too, and unfortunately it is a common occurrence in Disney World. We see rides go down all of the time and when popular rides go down, it can impact other wait times in the parks. Right now in Magic Kingdom, one of the most in-demand rides is closed.

We were walking around Magic Kingdom when we noticed that Cast Members were standing and blocking the entrance to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. That usually isn’t a good sign.

The ride is currently down for technical issues and Cast Members did not say when it could reopen. Sometimes rides open within an hour and other times it takes an entire day to get the ride back up and running.

So what should you do if a must-do ride is closed when you’re in the park? Keep checking the My Disney Experience app! The wait times are constantly updated in there and you will be able to see if it reopens without having to walk back to the attraction.

Big Thunder Mountain is also set to close for a refurbishment in January, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting. Hopefully the quick refurb will prevent more technical difficulties in the future!
