There are some MAJOR changes coming to Disney World and Disneyland over the next few years.
EPCOT is currently going through a massive transformation, and over at Disneyland Resort, Mickey’s ToonTown is going through renovations and will be “reimagined.” One of the BIGGEST updates we’ve been waiting for is when Splash Mountain will close to be rethemed in Disney World and Disneyland — and now, we FINALLY have an answer!
Disney just announced that Splash Mountain will be closing in Disney World on January 23rd, 2023! That means your last day to ride in the current iteration will be January 22nd, 2023. Currently, there is no closing date for Disneyland. This closure will be a long one, as work will begin to make the ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is set to open in late 2024.
Back in 2020, Disney announced that Splash Mountain would be rethemed after The Princess and the Frog, and we later found out that the new attraction would be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
At a media event, we also got details on a new scene for the ride, including concept art! On the attraction, you’ll join Princess Tiana and the alligator Louis in preparing to host a celebration for the people of New Orleans. The concept art is from the first drop into the bayou, where you’ll encounter some new and recognizable critters. The scene will also feature zydeco music, a blend of rhythm and blues from Louisiana. You can read even MORE details on the new scene here!
So, be sure you head to Disney World before January 23rd, 2023 to ride Splash Mountain before it’s gone.
