Splash Mountain Is Temporarily CLOSED in Disney World

Update: Splash Mountain later reopened.

If you’re hoping to SPLASH down through one of Magic Kingdom’s mountains right now, you might be out of luck.

Rides temporarily close in Disney World often, sometimes due to technical issues, sometimes due to other problems. These closures can be short or last for extended periods of time. Over the past several days, we’ve seen a number of closures impact some of Disney World’s most popular rides and now we’ve seen it happen again!

At Magic Kingdom, Splash Mountain (one of the park’s signature “mountain” attractions) is temporarily CLOSED. We saw that the ride was closed at around 2:45PM ET on October 21st.

When we spoke to a Cast Member near the ride, they said the ride had been closed for about 30 minutes, but they were “confident” it would reopen today.

No One Here!

They didn’t share exactly what caused the closure, but as we walked around, we did see that the entire queue for the ride had been emptied.

It’s a bit spooky to see it THIS empty when it is often swarming with people.

WOW

Ride closures can happen suddenly, so it’s important that you prepare for the possibility of encountering this type of situation. If you do find yourself in the park when one of your must-do rides shuts down, here’s our advice:

  • Check on the My Disney Experience app for updates — if you see a wait time posted, then the ride has likely reopened
  • Ask Cast Members near the ride if they have any information
  • Consider “knocking out” those must-do rides early in the morning, potentially minimizing your chance of encountering a later closure
  • If you can, build some flexibility into your plans so you can possibly visit a park twice during your visit, giving you double the chance of getting on a ride, in case it is closed for a long time during one of your days there
