If you’re in Disney World today, we hope you packed your ponchos!
Disney has seen some severe weather in the past with flooding and flood advisories, and it seems like today is expected to be another rainy day at the Most Magical Place on Earth.
As of the writing of this post, a Flood Advisory is in effect for Orange County, and Osceola County (as well as Lake County), Florida. Orange County and Osceola County are the two counties within which Disney World is located.

As of around 2:36PM ET, between 1-2 inches of rain had fallen and more rainfall was expected in the area.
UPDATE: Another Flood Advisory has been issued for Orange and Osceola Counties and will remain in effect until 5:30PM ET. According to that advisory, “Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.”
Additionally, a special weather statement has been issued for some areas. Specifically, the statement notes that a “strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southwestern Orange and northwestern Osceola Counties through 3:30PM ET.”
The statement warns that a Doppler radar has been tracking a strong thunderstorm near Bay Lake and that the storm was “nearly stationary.” Wind gusts of up to 50 mph have been noted as a hazard. The statement warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs. The locations impacted specifically include Bay Lake, Celebration, Four Corners, Champions Gate, and Animal Kingdom.
UPDATE: Though the time for the special weather statement above has ended, another special weather statement was made for Orange County. It notes that a strong thunderstorm will impact parts of Orange County through 4PM ET. The radar was actually tracking a strong thunderstorm over Universal Studios earlier.
UPDATE: A ground stop has been issued for Orlando International Airport due to storms in the area. This could impact inbound and outbound flights, so be on the lookout for delays there.
A 'Ground Stop' has been issued for @MCO due to storms in the area- holding some flights from heading our way. This will of course impact inbound and then outbound flights. We will be watching things closely and updating you as we get information…

We’ve seen severe weather and flooding impact Disney World before, with flooding even taking place in a store in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
This all serves as an important reminder that even though we’re getting closer to the end of summer, storms and severe weather can still impact Disney World and the surrounding areas.
If you’re heading to Disney World soon, don’t forget to check the weather forecast ahead of your trip and throughout your trip, as weather forecasts can change. Even if you don’t see any rain on the radar, we suggest packing some ponchos and umbrellas because Florida weather can change FAST.
