It’s November 18th, which means that today is Mickey Mouse’s and Minnie Mouse’s birthday!

In honor of the occasion, Disney has celebrated in a few different ways online and in the theme parks, and it has been a blast! But there’s one celebration that happens annually in a place that you wouldn’t expect.
If you’ve been to the Disney parks before, then you’ve likely heard of hidden Mickeys — they’re all around the parks, resorts, and even in the merchandise! But out of the thousands of hidden Mickeys out there, there’s one that’s clearly the most impressive. And it’s hiding in the Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid queue.

What do we mean? First, you’ll need to walk through the Little Mermaid line until you reach the indoor portion of the queue. Once you get underneath the rocky ceiling, start searching for a shape in the rocks that looks like the top of Mickey Mouse’s head.

When you look directly at the rock formation, it may not seem like anything special, and that’s because it isn’t…except for one day a year. Every year, on November 18th (Mickey and Minnie’s birthday), the sun will be in the perfect position to shine through the rocks so that the shadow of a hidden Mickey appears on the ground below. That’s right, the Imagineers did some seriously impressive math and astronomy to figure out exactly how to make this work!

Supposedly, we should’ve been able to spot this once-a-year hidden mickey at noon today. Unfortunately, it was a rather overcast day and Mickey didn’t show. Oh well, we at least got to hang out in the queue for a while with some other dedicated Disney fans. They even sang “Happy Birthday!”
Hopefully, the stars (and the sun!) will align next year and we’ll be able to check this out. Until then, stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news and updates!

There is also a Steamboat Willie Hidden Mickey in the rocks of the exit. It needs to be viewed at a certain angle so the rocks all line up.
