The Port Orleans resorts are two of the most popular and beloved places to stay in Disney World! Sadly, both Port Orleans — French Quarter and Port Orleans — Riverside have not reopened since March 2020. It’s been a while!

Luckily, these moderate resorts are set to reopen starting in October! In the meantime, Disney has been preparing for the grand reopening of these resorts!
Thanks to eagle-eyed reader @laurajeaneich on Instagram, we’ve got some photos of Disney Cast Members preparing the Sassagoula River Boats!

It looks like some Cast Members were in training; we bet it would take some serious practice to navigate the Sassagoula river! If you look closely, you can spot a sign that says “Training” on the boat.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside will reopen on October 14th and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter will reopen on October 28th!

The Sassagoula River Boats take guests from the Port Orleans resorts to (and from) Disney Springs. It’s a super convenient and speedy way to get to Disney Springs and it also stops at Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa! Disney hasn’t announced when these boats will return for guests, but this is so exciting to see!

We can’t wait for the Port Orleans resorts to reopen, and all this boat talk has us even more excited for October! Be sure to stay tuned for more Disney news and updates, and thanks again to @laurajeaneich for the photos!

If you need handicap accessible, avoid princess rooms. A lot of stairs and cobblestone.
Port Orleans Riverside is the best Moderate. A preferred room will get you near the main building, bus stop, boat dock (Disney Springs), and themed pool. With the other moderates you don’t get all that with a preferred room. We would have stayed there on our last trip, but it was closed. We had to stay at Caribbean Beach. We were near Port Royale but it seemed like a mile away from skyliner. Next time, we are either staying at Riverside or Polynesian.
Just love the relaxing vibe of French Quarter and all booked up for 2 weeks there in May. Stayed for 3 weeks last visit but it was my 60th so had an excuse.
We loved the Port Orleans. The convenience to the river transportation that took us to the Disney shops was ideal. Loved the restaurant.
Wife and I stayed at Riverside in 2019, and the boat option was really cool! Shame it took so long to reopen, but if you are staying here, you’ll have a great time. Great pool, nice rooms, boat options to Disney Springs, and the busses were pretty convenient. So to those training in the boats, I am glad you folks are there, and I am happy that this resort is coming back.
I’ve stayed at Riverside (it’ll ALWAYS be Dixie Landings to me) three different times, and each time my family and I took the boat down to Downtown Disney/Disney Springs. It was always one of our favorite moments of the trip because it was such a relaxing and pleasant trip. Glad to see it will be coming back soon.
I am always a little nervous when a menu doesn’t list prices. I interpret that as meaning “don’t even look here pauper, you can’t afford it”!
Um…huh?
