We’ve seen a lot of out-of-the-ordinary things at Disney World!

We’ve seen rides malfunction, unusual merchandise, and once, we even saw an animatronic get replaced with a potted plant. And today, during our visit to EPCOT, we got to watch Cast Members do something we’ve never seen before!
Over at The Seas Pavilion, we paid a visit to the manatee exhibit, but something was wrong today.

When we arrived, Cast Members were donning scuba gear to go down into the tank. From what we could find out, a guest had dropped something down in the tank and they were trying to retrieve the item.

The manatees had already been cleared from the tank for their own safety. Whatever was dropped had broken into multiple pieces and was requiring several trips to pick up.

After a little while, the Cast Members brought out a vacuum. It was fascinating to watch them work with the tool!

At the manatee habitat, there’s a plastic guard around the railing to prevent this very thing from happening. Whatever fell into the tank likely had to be thrown to make it that far inside. This is your friendly reminder to NEVER throw items into animal habitats at the parks — the animals could be injured!

This was definitely not something we expected to see today, and we hope that it doesn’t happen again. The manatees are probably eager to return to their home! Stay tuned to AllEars for more news and updates directly from the parks.
I’m shocked there is so little security protecting the animals. As for the pool vacuum, “big deal” I have friends who have these in their pools.
I just hope the manatees are okay!!! I wonder what was dropped in the tank!!!! It makes me sick to think someone might have thrown something in there on purpose!!!! I hope that’s not the case!!!
