Magic Kingdom is filled with remarkable themed lands, each with its own unique identity. Lots of fans will tout that the best land is perhaps Tomorrowland, with Space Mountain and Carousel of Progress, or they’ll maybe say that it’s Fantasyland, with its charm and magic.
But WE are here today to say that the most underrated land in the park has got to be Main Street, U.S.A. What makes this land so special? We’re glad you asked!
We’ve got four reasons Main Street, U.S.A., is so special.
The rich history!
One of our favorite things about Main Street, U.S.A., is its origin and background. As many Disney fans know, Main Street, U.S.A., is inspired by Walt Disney’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri. Not only that, but it is inspired by the era in which Walt grew up: turn of the century America with its unique charms and character.
The food!
We have to give a shout-out to the yummy food you can find on Main Street, U.S.A. The culinary journey you can take in this land has all the charm we mentioned above with the land’s history and inspiration. Whether it’s an ice cream cone from Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, a handmade sweet at the Main Street Confectionery, or a Table Service meal at Plaza Restaurant, don’t skip out on all the tasty treats on your next trip!
Ambiance!
Okay, here’s where we REALLY dive into the nitty-gritty of why we love Main Street, U.S.A., so much. Like we mentioned, you won’t find any roller coasters here, but what you will find are all the little details that make this front section of Magic Kingdom so magical. This land truly uses the five senses to tell a vibrant story from the moment you step foot in the park! Listen closely and you’ll here music that’s reminiscent of turn-of-the-century, including some familiar tunes for all you musical theater fans out there!
We also have to give a shout out to the resident musical act of Main Street, the Dapper Dans! Listen even more closely and you’ll hear the citizens of Main Street, U.S.A., chatting away in the windows above the street.
But it doesn’t stop there! Not only does Main Street, U.S.A., have some of the most unique sounds in Magic Kingdom, but it is also filled with all of the SMELLS we love, too! Mainly the waffle cone scent coming from Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and the popcorn smells wafting through the air.
The Hidden Gems!
There are tons of hidden details throughout Main Street worth checking out! So many people rush through this land to get to all of the more exciting rides and attractions, but on your next visit, take a moment to check out some of these hidden gems.
For example, did you know that there’s a barbershop on Main Street? You can get an actual haircut on your next trip to Magic Kingdom!
If you take a close look at the windows on Main Street, you may notice that many of them have names on them. Those names aren’t random; they’re dedicated to Disney legends and Imagineers of years past — including Walt himself! There’s even a window on a door dedicated to Disney World Cast Members — do you know which one it is?
The train station at the front end of Main Street is worth a visit, too! Even though the Walt Disney World Railroad is not operating at this time, you can still learn all about the trains that call Disney World home.
If you find yourself with extra time to spare on your next Disney World vacation, we highly suggest you spend an hour or so exploring Main Street, U.S.A. You may be surprised to find just how much you end up loving this land in Magic Kingdom!
