Shanghai Disneyland Expected to Re-Open Later This Month

Earlier this year, Shanghai Disneyland became the first Disney park worldwide to close its doors on January 25th. Since then, the park has remained closed, though Shanghai Disney Resort has re-opened in limited capacity with a select number of shopping, dining, and recreational experiences at Disneytown, Wishing Star Park, and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel

According to reports, after a nearly four month closure, the park may be looking at a re-opening date in the near future.

While nothing has been confirmed by Disney regarding a re-opening date for Shanghai Disneyland, several publications have begun questioning whether the park may be re-opening in some capacity later this month. According to a recent article from The New York Times, “Shanghai Disneyland, closed since January, is expected to reopen its main gates to a limited number of visitors in the next two-to-three weeks.”

The recent report lines up with recent social media accounts that state the park is looking to re-open in Mid-May.

While Disney has not directly confirmed a re-opening date, in April they were spotted doing test runs of their fireworks show. Additionally, social media users have shared images that allegedly show some of the precautionary measures that Shanghai Disneyland will be looking to take when they do re-open.

If Shanghai Disneyland were to re-open, it would not be the first Chinese theme park to do so. Last month, Attractions Magazine shared that China’s Fantawild theme park had re-opened with strict safety measures in place such as capped attendance, staggered seating on attractions, mandating face masks and temperature checks, and requiring that visitors book their appointments online in advance.

While Disney has not yet confirmed a re-opening for Shanghai Disneyland later this month, we will continue to keep you updated as new developments emerge.
