Old vs. New Ride Throwdown: Here’s Which Disney Attractions YOU Voted as Winners

Hi, AllEars readers! If you would like to read more information regarding the temporary closures at the Disney Parks, please click here for a list of closures at the Disney Parks, or click here for some of our most FAQs. From all of us at AllEars, our thoughts are with those affected. While the Disney Parks are closed, we will continue to write articles and bring you AllEars TV videos to enjoy and for our readers to use once the parks reopen.

Change can be hard, but Walt Disney himself said we must always “Keep Moving Forward.”

And while we understand why Disney needs to change, that doesn’t mean we don’t love some of the former residents of Disney World!

We recently took it to the AllEars Social Media Channels to ask YOU which attractions you prefer — the old or new rides that live in the same spot.

Here is what you said — and the results may surprise you!

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride vs. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh stomped out Mr. Toad 71% to 29%.

Maelstrom vs. Frozen Ever After

You sent Maelstrom “over the falls” with a 64-36 loss to Anna and Elsa.

Horizons vs. Mission: Space

Mission: Space blasted off with a 61-39 win over Horizons.

20000 Leagues Under the Sea vs. Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid

Captain Nemo and his submarine floundered and lost 22-78 when competing against Ariel and Sebastian.

El Rio del Tiempo vs. Gran Fiesta Tour

The Three Caballeros danced into victory with a 85-15 win!

Captain EO vs. Disney – Pixar Short Film Festival

Captain EO may be here to change the world, but I bet he wishes he could change his score after losing 41 59.

Great Movie Ride vs. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

The theme song for Mickey and Minnie’s may be “Nothing Can Stop Us Now” but they clearly weren’t talking about the Great Movie Ride, which won 75-25.

World of Motion vs. Test Track

Test Track zoomed into a win by beating World of Motion 90-10.

Soarin’ Over California vs. Soarin’ Around the World

Seems like you’d rather go around the world than over Cali, which lost 33-67.

Tower of Terror vs. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout

In this Disney California Adventure matchup, Guardians of the Galaxy failed to BREAKOUT of second place with a 80-20 loss.

Kitchen Kabaret vs. Awesome Planet

I guess the planet really is awesome, considering it beat Kitchen Kabaret 56-44.

Snow White’s Scary Adventures vs. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

While these aren’t exactly in the same spot, Snow White’s Scary Adventures was closed for Mine Train — which also closed down the competition at 88-12.

Journey into Imagination vs. Journey into Imagination with Figment

This comes as a surprise (to no one) that Dreamfinder beat the current version 59-41.

The Living Seas vs. The Seas with Nemo and Friends

Nemo and Marlin swim away with a 72-28 victory!

And now for the upcoming attractions:

Wonders of Life Pavilion vs. Play Pavilion

Despite Body Wars and Cranium Command at Wonders of Life, it looks like you’re still more excited for the Play Pavilion — it won 60 – 40!

Spaceship Earth (Current Version) vs. Spaceship Earth (Re-imagining)

This was a close one, but the current version still prevailed in a narrow 52-48 win!

Universe of Energy vs Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Even stupid energy can’t compete with Star-lord — the Guardians won 79-21!

Overall, it turns out you’re more excited about the future than the past — and I think Walt Disney would be proud.

Which coming attraction are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Almost uniformly, new beats old and IP beats original. I would like to see this poll redone where people could only answer if they had actually expereienced both versions.

  2. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Was IMO, such a cool attraction. The Imagineers did such an outstanding job on this attraction. When you think about looking out those portals, at the underwater view. And then it may hit you, that what you are looking at out your side. Was duplicated on the other side as well. They needed to do that because of the narration, of what you are viewing.

Not sure why it lost. Perhaps not many people who voted had the opportunity to experience 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I know it was a slow loader. And the upkeep was difficult/costly. And as you pointed out. Walt said his parks were always changing. I do enjoy Little Mermaid with my grandson. This is one time I miss the “Old”.

  3. I love this. I know nostalgia is powerful, but it seems that Disney is really making A LOT of good calls as they move forward. 💙
