Hollywood Studios Adjusts Opening Times and Adds Evening Extra Magic Hours!

Rising moons, travelers! Batuu’s been awfully busy lately at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the recent opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Fortunately, the First Order has generously elected to relax the curfew for guests staying in approved lodgings. In other words… Evening Extra Magic Hours are back at Hollywood Studios for Disney Resort guests!

People have been rushing to Hollywood Studios well before opening hours since Rise of the Resistance opened on December 5th, so those early morning perks haven’t been making the most sense lately for that park. Instead, Disney will be offering Evening Extra Magic Hours late into the evening for guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort Hotels!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

On December 15th and December 22nd, guests will be able to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and the rest of Hollywood Studios later in the night. On the 15th Evening Extra Magic Hours have the park open until 11:00 pm, and on the 22nd the park is open until midnight.  The perk will continue in January, with Evening Extra Magic Hours every Sunday. The park is open until 11:00 pm on January 5, and until 10:00 pm on January 12, 19, and 26.

Toy Story Land

In addition to the Evening Extra Magic Hours, Disney is adjusting the park’s official opening time to 7:00 am for all guests from December 12th through the 21st. This actually isn’t a huge change, as rope drop at Hollywood Studios has routinely been the posted opening hours since Rise of the Resistance opened. It seems like this is meant to address complaints from guests who arrived at the park at the posted opening time, only to find the virtual queue for Rise to already be closed. During January, the park will open at 8:00 am for all guests, including on Sundays.

As is typical for Evening Extra Magic Hours, guests who aren’t staying at a Disney Resort Hotel will be allowed to remain in the park, shop, and enjoy the ambiance. However, you’ll need to scan your MagicBand or room key to board an attraction.

We also don’t know if Rise of the Resistance will be included in the extended hours. So far, it’s been excluded from morning EMH, but that might change.

  1. You really spun this as a positive!☹️ What about on property guest with MVMCP tickets Sun., Dec. 15? Now locals and people not staying on property have the same chance to get a boarding group that on property guests should have received. Disney really failed on property guests. I have spent thousands of dollars to stay on property and this is a slap in the face.

    1. I completely agree. I was headed in on Dec 22 which previously posted AM EMH which is now gone…I am competing with people who are not staying on property so chances of riding are pretty slim. We use internal transportation, but everything I have read indicates that people are lining up as early as 5 or 5:30am. Yes, I know I could do that to, but I was planning to take advantage of the Morning EMH since I would only be competing with people staying onsite.

I love Disney, but there are fewer and fewer perks to staying onsite….I guess Universal and Seaworld need to feel a little of my love.
