If you’ve been paying attention to Disney World news over the past few days, then you already know that brand-new trash cans appeared at EPCOT.

We have lots to say about these new trash cans, and after some speculation, Disney has officially confirmed the future of trash cans at Walt Disney World, so let’s get into it!
In case you don’t know, trash cans are very important to the culture of Disney World. They can have fun theming to the area they are in, and there is even lots of Disney merch themed to these icons (we’re looking at you, salt and pepper shakers).

However, the most popular use of a Disney trash can is not to throw things away; it’s to eat on top of it! Now, we know this might sound crazy, but using the tops of Disney trash cans to eat is a popular rite of passage in Disney World, especially in EPCOT during one of the festivals.

So of course, when new trash cans popped up, we noticed. And these are a definite upgrade! These new trash cans have a foot pedal so you can throw away your trash without having to touch the trash can. Plus, they are also solar powered, which means they can compact the trash inside and inform Cast Members when the trash can is full with a light.

Originally, these cool new trash cans were only showing up around World Showcase. However, Disney has confirmed that this is changing soon. They revealed that guests can soon expect to see these new units in more areas around EPCOT, as well as the other parks, Disney Springs, the water parks, and ESPN Wide World of Sports, throughout the year.

We are excited to see Disney making this change and upgrading the trash can experience throughout Disney World.

We will continue to keep you posted on all the Disney trash can news, so stay tuned to AllEars so you never miss anything!
Is It Normal To Be This Excited About NEW Disney World Trash Cans?

If they ONLY open outward (toward the guest) that will only get people to throw their trash anywhere rather than in the bin. People are lazy, especially when they are at Disney. If they have to pull the ‘lid’ open or use a foot pedal, they are more likely to just drop their trash anywhere.
The flat tops and solar powered compacting functions are great IF the bins even get used for their intended purpose.
But the tops are rounded. How will they hold our plates?
