For the last 30+ years, Walt Disney World’s Value Tier resorts have split fan opinions. Some fans love the All-Star Resorts (Sports, Music, and Movies), Pop Century, and Art of Animation for their over-the-top theming, gigantic icons, the latter pair’s access to the Skyliner, and their (comparatively other Disney Resorts) lower prices. However, others find the aforementioned gigantic icons garish, and their motel layouts overcrowded and below Disney standards.

Recently, we took to our Facebook page to ask our readers, “What do you LOVE about value resorts in Disney World?” and we received a lot of responses, some of whom seemingly found it a bit ironic.
Many responses, such as this one from reader Ricco, said the best part of the Value Resorts was that they provided a no-frills bed to rest on while on a Disney World vacation. They wrote, “I’m a minimalist, and it’s in the price range I want to pay for a spot to sleep. I’m not there for the amenities like pool, club level, etc.”

Reader Bill expressed a similar sentiment, writing, “I like walking around, looking at the theming. I have done that every time I’ve stayed at the All-Stars. Three resorts, that’s a lot of walking and looking. Beyond that, a hotel is a place to shower and change clothes. Store my luggage, relax, and sleep. They’re not as cheap as staying in Kissimmee, but I do enjoy the theming.”

Pop Century, the early 2000s moment to the pop culture of the second half of the 20th century, was a particular favorite of many readers, with Katy writing, “Pop, hands down, beats almost every deluxe resort for me. It’s fun, whimsical, the Skyliner is a no-brainer, and the price tag.”

Reader Martha also called out Pop Century, though they were admittedly not quite as enthusiastic, writing, “They are perfectly acceptable and adequate for us to have a wonderful stay at a much more affordable price. Love the food court, the pools, the casual atmosphere. I do prefer Pop over Sports, having stayed at both last year. The rooms are the same, but Pop’s food court is much better and, of course, the Skyliner.”

However, as alluded to above, not everyone was a fan of the resorts. Many readers responded with a sarcastic “nothing” when asked what they loved about the hotels, with some comparing them unfavorably to Deluxe and Moderate Tier resorts. As Derrick wrote, “Not stayed in one. Been to a few to have a look around. Usually, we go to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Quieter, fewer kids.”

Reader Ed was more blunt in their assessment, writing, “I love that I will never stay at one again.” … Well then, guess someone’s not staying near the giant Walkman anytime soon.

Walt Disney World’s Value Resorts are still a major favorite of some of our readers, and for others… not so much. If you’re interested in sharing your thoughts on this, or any other Disney or travel-related topic, follow us on the AllEars Facebook to join in on the next conversation!
