One of SeaWorld Orlando‘s newest attractions is already getting an update!

The Florida theme park opened Expedition Odyssey in 2025, but it’s already time for a little TLC. The lively theme park might have some big events going on right now, but that won’t stop construction! Let’s learn about the changes here.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Expedition Odyssey is changing! The flight simulator ride (which has been compared to Disney’s Soarin‘) is getting a “fiery update” less than one year after it opened in May 2025. That even includes a brand new name!

The ride will be renamed to Expedition Odyssey Fire & Ice. The ride will feature a new film that will maintain the theme of animals and scenery, but it will add new storytelling and narration. “We are telling a whole new immersive adventure from beginning to end,” said Kevin Boutte, vice president of attraction design at SeaWorld.

The theme park shared that in the new story, guests will become Arctic researchers who are on an observation mission. They also confirmed it will show the differences between geothermal fire and ice. Boutte continued to say, “Guests will see new environments that they’ve never seen before, new animals that weren’t in the previous experience, such as sperm whales.”

He continued to tease about new environments like volcanoes and said that guests will be amazed that “the world has these types of places.” The same ride system will stay, so only the story and name are changing. The original version of the attraction features polar bears and orcas, and guests can still experience it while the park is transitioning to the new storyline. SeaWorld confirmed the change will take roughly 40 days.

The change is being made so they can make better use of the ride system. Justin Newton, senior vice president of project development, said the current storyline is a good film with emotional moments, but that he felt “like we bought a Ferrari to drive the kids to school.” They’re aiming to take advantage of the ride system’s capabilities in a new way that the current film doesn’t. Park president Jon Peterson said, “If you can make something better, and you can get a better touch to the public, why wouldn’t you?”

The attraction will continue to house real arctic animals like walruses and beluga whales on exhibit as part of the ride exit. This is a pretty big surprise to see such a new ride already receiving big changes, but we can’t wait to see what they do with the attraction. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more theme park news, updates, and more.
