UPDATE: New Photos of Disney World’s Massive Park Expansion Dropped

Progress is being made at the Magic Kingdom!

Magic Kingdom is undergoing a massive expansion with several new things on the horizon at the popular park. It almost feels like we’re checking up on it every day, looking for that next big update — we’re just very excited, ok?! Construction is happening at the park right now, and thanks to some new aerial photos, we have a chance to take a look at the progress being made in Frontierland.

One of the highly anticipated areas coming to Magic Kingdom is the all-new Cars-themed area, Piston Peak. It’ll be located in Frontierland, where Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America once stood before they closed in July. The land will be themed like a National Park and will feature a thrilling off-road racing e-ticket attraction.

Work has already begun on the area, and thanks to bioreconstruct on X, we have some brand-new updates!

These photos were taken on October 12th, 2025. You can see that the Rivers of America is very drained now, which started its draining process in August. If you look closely, you’ll be able to see the track that the Liberty Belle ran on.

We’re wondering when Tom Sawyer Island itself will start to be taken down. You can see everything is still in place, and the buildings remain standing. Plus, all the trees and plants haven’t been removed yet. We’re expecting that to come soon, especially seeing machines like an excavator by the island. The aerial provides a great indication of what’s happening since you can’t see anything in the park with all the walls up.

There isn’t much to say on the other highly anticipated land coming to Magic Kingdom, but Bierconstruct shares some pictures of the area beyond Big Thunder Mountain where the new Villains Land will be.

Disney has been keeping Villains Land under wraps, so we’re hoping news drops on it soon — we honestly just can’t wait any longer. What we do know is that it will feature new attractions, dining options, and more.

There is no opening timeline for Piston Peak or Villains Land as of right now. We’re still in the early stages of the construction process, with TONS of work to be done.
