Disney World is in the midst of tons of changes as new lands are being built, but one of the only parks that doesn’t have a massive construction project right now is EPCOT.

However, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on in this park — far from it! In fact, if you’re heading to EPCOT later this year, you need to know that one of the park’s most iconic attractions will be closed for refurbishment starting later in August.
On August 25th, Spaceship Earth will close for a refurbishment. The catch? There’s no planned reopening date; Disney has just told us that it plans “to reopen later this year.”

We totally see why this refurbishment is needed. We love this ride as much as everyone else, but we have no problem admitting that it’s been on the struggle bus a bit recently. We’ve seen more frequent unexpected closures in the past few months, and when I’ve personally ridden recently, I’ve seen some animatronics not working properly, or looking like they need some TLC.

Spaceship Earth is an omnimover dark ride that takes you through the history of communication. It’s a comfort ride for many, and at the end, it becomes interactive when you get to select what you’d want your future to look like through the screens on your ride vehicle (and if your photo actually works, bonus points, that doesn’t happen often).

It’s set to close just days before the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival starts on August 28th. This is typically the biggest festival of the year, and we’re looking forward to trying new food and bringing all the details to you.
